lovely as always katie, i really like the yin yang one.
here's a couple more sunset shots from the same park. the first is a 35mm film version of a stitch i did on digital (the stitch came out much better imo). the second is probably my favorite from the day (they're hard to see but there's another valentine's couple in it).
Sebboh- we should shoot next time I am in SF - I never seem to find these great locations you have come across in your limited time there.
Katie - love "yin-yang"
Zalmy- you didn't tell us you knew Katy Perry!!! Love 6-8+11. In #2, watch out for putting your subjects into the shadows on film (not sure if you are open to crits).

An older 4x5 negative that I never processed. I only had a super wide angle 75mm at the time and thought this was too vertical. I cropped a good bit off the top and was able to work the contrast a lot. I am going to try a Kallitype soon as I think that will work well here, but who knows.
I am happy with how it turned out and I'm glad I re-stumbled upon the image on my HD. It has given me some ideas to go back to the Cathedral with especially with 8x10 and a couple different focal lengths.
Any 4x5 shooters here?
I just purchased a Sinar 4x5 f2 kit.
I am doubting my sanity right now...
Anywho, what are my color film choices that are still available?
Katie,I love the ocean shots (especially the one side smooth one), and I like ho win the wet slide one his hair is mimicking the palm trees (or vice versa).
Sebboh, did you use a filter on that last one to bring out the sky? Or does tri-x have that much detail in the highlights?(believe it or not I've never used tri-x)
Zaitz, great shot (but all of yours are great ), I love the symmetry and the local contrast (if that's what it's called) is stunning.
buggz I think both new portra's and ektar are available plus velvia, provia and astia (and fuji instant...).

no filter, i did boost the vignetting in post though. tri-x seems to hold a lot of detail when over exposed.
Just want y'all I know that my Bessa arrived today!!! I'm so excited! It's so much lighter than even my minolta xg1 - I could carry this all day! Probably even with the mamiya 7. It's a dream team!
zalmyb: thanks
Do you know of the last instant type film that is still available?
FujiFilm FP-100C45
It seems that this requires an expensive holder just for this type film,
FujiFilm Instant Holder PA-45
Hmm...

Those look soo cool!
I almost was going to get one last year.
Though, I kept talking myself out of the film stuff.
Heh, now I am wanting to learn LF style shooting.
It just never stops for me.
Which is good, I *HATE* being idle!

ooooo waiting for some bessa goodness (tempt me...)
Buggz,I think a polaroid 550 back should work, but I really have no clue
Here area few more of my daughter with the Hassy + 50 (I think I'm nearing the end of those). I think these were portra nc. I gave up on scanning color so I just converted them...
Fuji fp100c in 4x5 or 3.25x4.25 are the choices for instant film with 4x5. Fuji pa45 or pa145 are the holders to use, or polaroid 550. For film , I mostly use ektar 100 and portra 400 for 4x5. For black and white, tmax is a good choice, I think.

Zaitz shoots 4x5 Yes I do! 4x5 is a fun little format, great for snapshots....sorry lol. Read that on largeformat forums the other day and laughed. But yes I shoot 4x5 when the framing works out better on my 8x10 camera. I am trying to unload my Crown Graphic to focus on 8x10.
You are quite sane. 4x5 isn't that expensive imo. I shoot a lot less film than I think I am going to, every time. The exacting nature of the system means I sometimes spend 30-45 minutes just composing and calculating 1 single photo.
There is no 'better' color negative film than Portra 400, from what I've seen. Insane latitude. The 400 speed for some may mean too grainy for enlargements over Portra 160. I am wanting to use it more and more. I've seen some tremendous photos lately with wonderful subtle, pastel-like colors. I'd like to try and add a bit more subtlety to my work. Velvia 50 and 100 are both great for slide film when latitude is not needed or wanted. Velvia 50 renders colors in an insanely awesome way. Though, sometimes the really blue shadows aren't my thing. I may try a warming filter.
My setup for 8x10 is Portra 400, Velvia 50, and HP5. Acros for long exposures on 4x5. Efke films are cheaper though some are leaning more towards orthochromatic.

Thank you, though I am sure that is far from the truth!

I had the pa-45 holder for FP100c45, just sold it a few weeks ago. It's ok but not for me. If I am going through the whole process then I want the quality of a 4x5 negative. Some use it for proofing. I believe Fuji is going to stop making it though there is enough supply to last a couple years from what I hear. Holders can be as cheap as $150-175 on Ebay.
