Dec 26 I adopted (now) Riley from the Downey animal shelter. He had been there two months, and his time was up. He had 72 hours left. I had lost my beloved Peppers on August 3rd and had felt that aching ever since. Riley was not to replace Peppers, but saving him for Peppers.
It's heartbreaking that these shelters are overflowing so please adopt and save a life.
Camera of choice? Samsung AF Slim Zoom (w Fuji Press 400 @ 100) as it was going to be a handful and I just needed something to P&S, as well as the fact I was going to hand it over to someone to take pics of us. When you do that the only explanation you want to give is 'point and shoot!'.
Here is the handing over. In the few days since I have had him he has been a pure joy. Friendly to everyone - dogs and people, perfectly behaved....Show more →
Nice looking pupper @Desmolicious! Adopting is the way to go. 🐶
Here's a few shots of my most recent.... Er, camera adoption. Voigtlander Bessa III (Fuji GF670) and Pro 400H.
Shot this roll of Kodak Ektapress 1600 - age unknown but could be 30 yrs old - and not 'correctly' stored.
Rated it at 160, judging by the thin negs this ISO 1600 film is now an ISO 50 film..
You know how they say don't use expired film for anything important? Well a storm had just passed through, the light was clean, clear and pure, and the surf was up. I should have loaded fresh film...
But I still like these in a super grainy, colour shifty, blotchy abstract lomo kinda way.
Moving in to 2024 and film is still being used and produced. Cheers to those of us who never abandoned it and welcome to all of the new and returning users.

This photo started life as a digital image (shot two summers ago on Sony a7iii with Minolta MC Rokkor 100/2.5 lens). It captured an evocative moment but I missed focus badly. I loved the mood, though, and its low-fi quality reminded me of a Polaroid shot so I used a Polaroid emulation LUT to try to salvage it. But last week I got a Polaroid Instant Lab printer so I thought, "now I can actually turn that photo into a Polaroid." So I did. I transferred the digital image to my phone, put the phone on the printer, and it snapped a photo of the image and printed out a Polaroid. Then I scanned the Polaroid so I could upload it.
And another one that wanted to be a Polaroid. Original shot on Sony A7iii with Canon 35/1.8 LTM lens. Polaroid Instant Lab printer with i-Type color film.

Some 28 lux shots from a recent couple rolls. It's a little harder to shoot than 35 I think since you have to get closer. But when you do, I really like the context you get with 28mm. Portra 400/800 and one 800T.
Great shots man and Love the Porta!
How are you liking the 800T? I love it at night and with bright lights - How did you like the rest of the roll with family type shots, assuming that’s what you took?

Wow. the grain on that Ektapress 1600 is intense! I remember 1600 being very grainy but somehow I don't remember it being that extreme.... or that intensely colorful. Is the extra graininess due to the film's age?
Regarding those intense colors -- Is that how it came SooC or did you tone-up the colors in post? One of the things that I love about shooting film is that you don't have the ability to fake colors to extreme surrealistic levels, the emulsion just does what it does. One of the reasons that I HATE digital is that none of the colors in post-processed digital look at all realistic, because everyone is in a competition to out-saturate the next guy. I see this in one of the current Landscape forums threads where there is a Japanese Pagoda that has been so ridiculously processed that the red leaps off of the screen as it burns your retina.
Somewhere between the "film look" and the "digital look" are the people who digitize film and use digital enhancement techniques that take it into artistry and out of the realm of authenticity. I'm sure some people like it, but it's just not my cup of tea. To me, film should look like film.

thanks! There are lots of Samsung p&s, but I narrowed it down to two. Either the AF Slim, or the AF Slim Zoom. The Zoom is the one w the 35-70 lens, avoid the others (they are big, clunky etc).
Also do NOT get the AF Slim R. It is not an improved AF Slim, but a much cheapened version with worse lens and very limited shutter speeds.
