Makten, very nice B&W tones from your recent shots! Which developer did you use?

Couple of random shots from a roll of possibly expired Kodak Gold 400.

Thanks! I used Fomadon R09 ("Rodinal") diluted 1:60 and the film is Tri-X. But actually I don't think the developer has anything to do with the tones here. I could have had the same result (or perhaps even better) with D-76 that I used before. It's all about applying a curve that gives high contrast in the right tonal range, which takes quite a lot of work for every single picture.
I scan in 48 bit color, as a positive. Then I do everything manually from there, which is very different from what the scanner software does when automating things.

What R09 does, is giving higher acutance than D-76. So the images come out much sharper, which is nice. But the grain is also more noticable at times.

Is the moiré on my screen, or present in the scan?

That's actually moiré in the real world! Interference between grids in overlaying panels on the building, so nothing photo related at all.

How much do you want for it? I want an Xpan 2 too. Every time I've got enough money to buy one, I always blow it on something else. Nice shot by the way. I like the two dudes in the background.

Here's a shot off of a roll of Scotch Chrome 640T I shot this summer. The grain is something else.

Makten, thanks for the explanation! Very interesting that you scan 48bit color as positive. Guess I have to read up some more on this.

Rodinal is a classic, I have some in my fridge, but I guess that is an overkill for storage

I wrote about it on my blog some days ago, but it's in swedish. Maybe try google translate?
