Got my first test roll back from the $50 cheap Nikon N80 using Gold 200. Nothing special just some snaps of the kids.
I used the Nikon 58 1.4 G, which I now think doesn't work too well on film bodies. I'd say 25% of the shots were out of focus. I will try out the 50 1.4G (that I also have) next. Here are a few that were somewhat in focus. Also didn't realize how narrow 1.4 is on this lens.
Is there a reasonably priced 28/35mm that works well with the Nikon film cameras?

If the camera can take the AF-D lenses (screwdriver autofocus, I think it does), that's the way to go. Really good image quality (the 35 f2 in particular). And cheap.

Not surprised as the 58 1.4g is notorious for focus issues on Nikon’s DSLRS, and with those you can tune the focus! I have a similar, but not as bad, issue using the Sigma 50 1.4 ART on my F6. The 35 Art is fine but the 50 is inconsistent wide open.
With my N80, the 50 1.8g is perfect. 50 1.4D is perfect. And the 35 f2 D is awesome. A fantastic lens. But… some copies oil their aperture blades. It happened to mine after being fine for several years. When that happens it causes the blades to stick ruining exposures. It is fixable though, Deans Camera Repair in Torrance fixed mine for $100.
50 1.8g - not just the size but also the super light weight is great
35 f2 D - highly recommended. Perhaps the best lens for the N80
That pic was not cropped! They were that close to me because I was carrying nachos.
Also I recommend this 28-80g lens. You can get one for like $40 tops (I paid $20) and it is stupid good on film.
