Yes, that's one of the lenses I had in mind. Can you guess the others?

I have a mint Oly 50/1.2 "Japan"..... I love this lens and have always said that it will need to be pried out of my cold dead hands. But thanks to a PITA eye condition, I am finding manual focusing quite a bit harder these days (even though I have split screen and focus confirm).

So now I am considering selling the Oly for a Canon 50/1.4.... Am I crazy? I am interested to know what people think of how they compare. Plus is the Oly 50/1.2 likely to be investment glass? ie Will it's value will keep going up? Here in Australia they are presently going on eBay for about the same cost as a new Canon 50/1.4.

Cheers

Rusty

No, I was thinking of the Contax 55/1.2 (category "d") and Noct-Nikkor (category "b").

Nice shots, Paul.

I have now been shooting street stuff with my newly acquired Noct-Nikkor and honestly, the NN has better handling than (my) Rokkor, but for wide open sharpness and ability to snap into focus in a clear way - the Rokkor wins. Extremely unscientific-on-the-street-observation over a 48hr period.

IMO, for the price, you can't beat Zuiko 50, Pentax 50, or Rokkor 58 in the f/1.2 department. If you are in a budget, there's no point buying a lens like Zeiss Yahre just because.
My last grand were spent on seven or eight Zuikos. My next grand will pay a 5D.
But that's just me

Don't forget we are talking about f1 and faster lenses too, though they tend to be in category B, with the exception of perhaps the Canon 50mm for TV and the old Canon rangefinder system.

This seems to be changing as the 0.95 has risen significantly in price - recently the RF version is bringing up to $2000 and a couple hundred more if converted to M-Mount. With the recent Noctilux price drops it is becoming as little as $1500 difference...

@0.95..

Looks good. Does the D700 have a strong AA filter on it. There is a smoothness to the images that doesn't look like it comes from the lens.

I shoot JPG, so possibly that might have something to do with it. I don't know if it is the AA filter or what.

The Noct-Nikkor is still my favorite of the SLR lenses. It is just so smooth, yet sharp.

Yeah, for sure. It is interesting how this lens behaves. I've not seen anything like it and it's spectacular. One more...
