I thought some of you might be interested in seeing this. I visited a local nature center last week and they have reconstructed this replica of the largest Eagle's nest every recorded. I had heard the tale, but had forgotten the details and had never seen these photos before.
As the posters in these photos indicate... the nest measured a whopping 12 feet tall, 8 1/2 feet wide at the top and weighed in at 2,000 pounds... It was located near Vermilion, Ohio from 1890 to 1925, when it was destroyed by a storm that blew the tree down.
I have included a photo of none other than the very famous hand model... ME, standing like Vanna White next to it to illustrate just how big this baby was. It was studied and photographed by a Dr. Francis Herrick in the 1920's and the nest appeared in National Geographic Magazine in 1929. Pretty amazing stuff...

Hi Terry, I have heard about this often, I did not realize it has been gone that long though. Too bad, that proximity would put that nest about 6 miles from me! More of tree house than a nest Really neat info, thanks on that.

That's one GREAT idea Anthony, I wonder if it would do any good to spread some fish carcases around the yard... think that would help to bring em in? Makes sense... eagle takes fish... looks over at a great looing stick and thinks, "what the heck, I'm down here... I think I'll take that stick with me as long as it's right there."
