I have seen some interest in the forums for another WAP shoot. The last BIG one we did was back in 2003 I believe. I figured I'd start a thread to judge the interest. If there is enough interest, we could go ahead and choose a date.
I'm in. Membership lasts 'till the end of June before I have to re-up. BTW, if anyone has the 300/4L IS, Sigma 100-300/4, or Tamron 200-500 I would love to fondle them for a bit while there to test them (would save me several rentals...).
I've just renewed my membership and haven't been for a while. I also signed up for the Photo overnight on Sunday May 18. I haven't got anything longer right now (have a 400 for the Maxxum but sold the camera to a relative). I'll keep an eye out on this.
Yes, early morning then late afternoon are good, especially after the heat breaks, the animals get more active. I used to like taking the tram at sunset and later, lots of activity, the natives are restless, bats and bugs, etc. That walk up from Heart of Africa in the heat of the day isn't much fun though!
I'm down, I went with ann ad tex on the photo tour when it was drizzling and got some good shots but i have always wanted to head back. But this time i don't think i would do the tour instead walk the park. Count me in when a date is set.

I guess you haven't been there in a while..there is hardly any walk now. They made a path from HOA to where the lions are and then there are elevators right next to the balloon ride that takes you up to the main area...so no more walking
Yeah, I haven't been since just after they started the new tram system. There were no elevators or moving stairs of any sort. They had opened from Heart of Africa to the Lions though. Probably a good idea, especially during the hot weather.
It sounds as though we have quite a bit of interest, so we should start setting a date. I do like the idea of taking advantage of the summer hours. There is a definite chance that it will be quite hot, but we run that risk all the way through the fall, so we've got to go at some point.
The first question is morning vs. afternoon/evening? I suppose some people can stay the entire day if they want, but I've usually had my fun after a few hours. The only days I could do it because of my work schedule would be Sunday Mondays --- and I assume Sundays are best with the majority of the people here on the board.
So if we want to take advantage of the summer hours, we'd be looking at shooting there on a sunday after the 21st of June. The two nearest opportunities would be June 22, or June 29.
I was just there this past Saturday.. it was a bit on the warm side for most of the day. Still a bit of walking required to get places... But they did make it a bit easier...
The new Tram I think is not all that great.
But if we can get a group of 10 for the Photo Caravan we get a truck to ourselves and they will stop whenever and whereever we want.
Best deal is the 4 hour trip... in the afternoon...
Well, if the trip is on Sunday then I am out.,. Not going to stay till 8pm and then drive 2 hours home and head to work the next day...
My wife and I hit WAP on about the hottest day last year & just got the free-refill cup with lemonade. I think we went through several gallons of lemonade on that cup that day.
