p.1 #1 · Cycling - Road race and Time Trial - Tour de Ephrata
This past weekend I photographed the "Tour de Ephrata" in Lancaster County PA. Two days and three events - Road Race on Saturday and Sunday was an individual Time Trial and then afternoon Criterium. Man, what long days - tough doing these kind of days when this is only a PT gig for me.
I'll cut right to the chase and post some images for C&C. I shot probably close to 3000 cycling images and as usual, try really hard to capture as many different images and looks as possible. This post I think I'll show some different style images - more along the "artsy" look just for something different.
If you want to take a look, I have a nice slide show showing right now on my home page from the Road Race and Time Trial (I still have not processed the criterium photos - later this week). www.MLKimages.com

Time Trial was pretty much a Hill Climb TT (called the TT of Pain). It was tough just walking some of the sections
#2
This was an experiment - I used a ND filter on the 300 f/2.8 so I could drop the shutter speed for wheel blur, but still maintain a shallow DOF - this was shot 1/160 f/4.0

G'day Michael,
I never thought of using a ND filter to get the spinning wheel effect. What stop ND filter did you use ?
I like some of the color processing work you have done. Would it be possible to share some of these color processing techniques like in shot 1. As usual I really like the low angle shots you take.

Wow Michael I gotta say this is some of the most impressive stuff I've seen from you... I'm just digging #1, 2, 4 and 6... really an excellent job of getting variety, different angles/compositions/effects into this series... bravo.

Michael, your past experience coupled with your obvious artistic vision is really starting to shine. As always, an excellent series of images. Love #1 and think that you really do show some creativity in using the ND filter. Great job.

Damn Michael, great work! Glad the ND idea worked out so well for you!
I've been wanting a 300 f/2.8 for 30 years and damn, looking at your pix makes me want one more than ever. Absolutely splendid work! I'm shooting a Tri this weekend and you've inspired me (again).

Excellent series, 6 and 10 are favorites. I also like #1 quite a bit - wish there was just a touch of road beneath the wheel - did this get cropped by the frame?

All,
WOW! I had to step away from the computer for a day traveling for work and its really nice to return to so many gracious comments and feedback. Thanks! Everyone!
It kind of funny, but I think I finally had "that revelation"...I started photography 2 years ago right around this time. Last year I muttled my way through and did ok for this only being a PT gig for me, never really felt like I had my own style though. I was out shooting, often knew what I wanted to do and how to do it, but never really could say that I "had a style". You know, when you can look at someones work and say - I know who took that image. Well when I was shooting and scouting out locations during the race I kind of started getting that feeling...and especially when I was doing my PP work (which is really nothing special), I was really enjoying the images I was seeing and especially how they looked as a finished "product" - I just kind of thought to myself - hey, I think I finally have found "my style"...and really like it! Not that anyone other than myself would recognize who took the images but beauty is in the eye of the beholder right!
Thanks again, I'm almost done PP on the criterium photos and hope to post some samples today or tomorrow.

As others have said, this is a very nice set. I really like the artistic approach you've taken here. This is an all around solid set, but #1 and 6 really stand out for me. Well done.
