judging by the number of moronic questions and crummy holiday snaps I've seen posted on another forum by 1Ds3 owners, I think there are plenty of amateurs and wannabes who will spend $3K+ on a FF body
Doctors, Dentists, Lawyers and CPAs need cameras too.
So amateurs should not be so bold as to want a FF camera?
Stop being so bloody snobby.
We non-pros also like to buy the best, we just don't need the gear to pay the bills. Is there anything wrong with a non-pro sporting an 'L' lense and a decent camera?
Really.
I agree with eyebrock
it's about photography - composition, technique, sharing feelings/moments etc.
there're ppl who wanna do this by using "reliable" tools, such as Ls...
C'mon guys
Even if this camera DID come out on day and time stated -- how long do you think it would be before questions such as when will the 5D MK III be out.
Use what you've got currently and use dpreview for rumours etc etc.
Perhaps there should be a special forum ONLY for speculation --let's keep the Canon DSLR forum for ACTUAL REAL hardware and helps on getting the best use out of what is available or what to do if it goes wrong.
That way we can really use the Forums for PHOTOGRAPHY rather than DREAMING.
Anyway guys if this DOES appear the current 5D will become an absolute BARGAIN.

I'm not sure who this vitreol was targeted at but I was not being a snob, merely responding to a post that stated amateurs would not buy a FF camera priced over $3K by noting (albeit sarcastically) that there are apparently plenty of amateurs (based on photo quality and some very basic questions about lenses) who'll spend $8K on a camera body. Power to them. I wish I had the money to spare.
I think there are more amateurs than pros buying high-end cameras and exotic lenses, not surprisingly. And there is nothing wrong in amateurs wanting to buy the best that they can afford in order to indulge in their hobby. Hi-Fi enthusiasts will spend 6-figures on high-end equipment. Simply put, you buy whatever you can afford to enjoy your hobby. What has skills got to do with it?
My apologies, I misconstrued you're sarcasm.
No offence intended, my Anglo directness was not meant to be vitriol. Again, I’m sorry it was taken that way.
I didn’t always have the spare cash, I worked my way up to the good glass I now have. When the 5D replacement comes out, I’ll wait a suitable time for the price to drop, then it will replace my crop camera and I can use my lenses as Canon intended.
I’m sure there are plenty of serious, non pro users in the same spot.

I would be very happy if this camera finally came out...wait a few months for the first price drop, and I'd definitely be interested.
Me too.
Hopefully Canon will have double or tripple rebates on it this fall.
Now I'm really dreaming....

Yeah I'm pretty sure this is correct by a fair margin.
I'm an amateur by any standard (and every meaning of the word) and I'm in the middle of upgrading my Tamron 17-50 to a Canon 16-35. Why? To get rid of my last EF-S lens to be ready for the 5D mk II - Whenever it's out.
After that, I'll be crying my eyes out when my pictures suck because I can't blame the equipment.
This is like hockey equipment, the most high end goalie pads are bought by who? Pro's, Juniors, College kids, or High/Middle school athletes. Give up HS goalies dumping $1800 on a set of leg pads (I can remember when I could buy a camera system for that much money).

$1800 for leg pads? Why, when I was a kid we would use coffee cans cut in half and tied together with string.
