The city decided to add a new sidewalk on the east side of this well-developed residential street. To do this they had to make the sidewalks conform to the existing landscaping. The sidewalks on the other side of the street, having been constructed at the time of the homes (over 30 years ago), is perfectly straight. A popular slogan in Austin is, "Keep Austin Weird." This helps do just that.
Oh Wow, Endre! What a nice comment. Thanks so much. So many great entries (such as yours); mine is rather simple, but this sidewalk really captivated me. Fond regards back at ya.
Well Beverly, you’ve definitely captured the prettiest sidewalk!
The black and white conversion is perfect and the composition is superb with the perfect integration of the inclined and curvy trees with the wavy sidewalk…
Hi Beverly - Interesting shot! Certainly looks like they could've simplified the shape of that walkway.
I think the fact that the trees are leaning toward the sidewalk (instead of straight) adds to the photo, too.
Good job!
Very nice shot! I love the way the trees slant to the left. The picture is perfectly weighted and i really think that sidewalk is amazing. Im sure they could have made it straighter, though i'm glad they didn't, or we wouldn't have your fine image, would we?!
composition.....composition.....composition.....it's GREAT!
Very sharp also, and the B&W adds alot to............did i mention the composition?
great entry

Beautiful shot as usual and this week I really like the composition. The sidewalk is definitely weird buy also strong draws one's interest. Great job. Good luck this week.
Thanks EVERYONE! The wonderful comments are enormously appreciated!!!!
The curvy part to the left encroaches into someone's front yard. I'd hate to edge around this thing! It does add a bit of whimsy though. I'm glad they didn't take out trees to do this.
Great photo Bev, I don't think its weird at all, alot of parks do something like that so its not a constant straight line to everything. If your always looking ahead you always miss whats around you, just my take on life, thanks for sharing and Goodluck this week.
I really do like this shot. The composition, DoF, lighting and subject are perfect. And I do like the B&W conversion. However, I'm wondering what the color version might've looked like--any green? Living in the Great Plains all I've seen for the last 4 months is white snow and dead trees, a little green/life really appeals to me right now.

I only wish other cities would be as weired. It shows you are environmentally friendly.
Oh, and BTW, very nice shot. I often don't like B&W conversions but this one works well.
Thanks, everyone! Yes, I LOVE THIS SIDEWALK, weirdness, silly appearance and all. It is one of the most charming things about Austin, which is super enviro-friendly!!
Glad you appreciate it (and the photo), too. :-)
Chad: the color version is lovely in its own way, though the foreground is all dead leaves--but the colors compete for attention. The conversion allowed for the forms to really come through. Thanks!
