You know, at one time I tried to convince my family that we should move to Austin: great climate, low crime rate, technology industry, good cycling. Add one more plus, intriguing photo opportunities. However, I couldn't have done this justice the way you have.
It's hard to come up with superlatives that haven't been used already. And to think you've been doing "serious" photography for just over a year. How do you do it?

Richard... You flatter me!!! Thanks. I'm glad you think my photography is so nice. In all humility, I think by having been an artist all my life it's helped me see light, shape, composition, and has probably been a big boost in the transition to photography?? All I know is I just love it!!! Too bad you don't live in Austin, we could go shoot something. Lots to shoot here!! All the best,
bev
We have one or two sidewalks similar to this in my city so maybe not so silly as you might think. Like it lots because you've produced something special here in your composition and processing.
Bev, I really like the shot. Among other things, the very small number of textures is nicely abstract. I can't figure out what that is around the sidewalk: grass, astroturf, leaves? Yours is a very nice composition. And very much on target with the WA. --K
Mike:
Thanks. Yes, running down this would be a challenge, as would biking. I felt funny walking along it (I shot it from both directions), espec. since I was standing in front of someone's house taking a photo... I felt rather self-conscious. ha
Kevin:
Thanks! The stuff around the sidewalk is tons of shriveled, dead leaves on dry grass.
A brilliant photo. Lovely textures. Lots of contrast. It also has a very clean and tidy feel to it -- in the best possible sense: something of an elegance, I'd say. A pleasure to see.
Now if that had been here they would have made the path then decided the trees were overhanging and chopped them down, then the path would be dangerous because you could fall off the edge, so they would dig it up and make a wide straight one.
Be glad you live somewhere that has a weird side
Great shot and love the B&w
Take care
Mark
Wonderful find and IMO very well composed. Your attention to detail is displayed perfectly in this shot. The crispness, the tones, the focus and the composition. I really am enjoy it. Thanks for sharing and good luck.
Oh, and as for Mike's suggestion. I can just see that as a challenge for a bunch of tipsy college kids.
I like the shot beverly, one of the best in the group. Can't put my finger on it, but something about the BW conversion is (too sharp? harsh? contrasty? )
good luck - jp
