actually, during hubsand's test I formed the opinion that the d21 has a noticeable advantage over the 14 -24 in pure image quality, distortion aside. It wouldn't surprise me if you could see that. A 5d is at least as sharp as a d3 too. The d3 will probably win at high ISO, but the 5d/d21 is still cheaper. It's a toss up: save money on the smaller lighter 5d/D21 or pay a bit extra for very nearly as good image quality, and get better usability, AF, auto-aperture and 14mm thrown in.
Thank you; I was referring to the D300/14-24 combo, not the D3. I just purchased the 5D, and I cannot afford the D3, also. I'm debating between buying the Distagon 21 to match up with the 5D, or take the 3,200 and buy a D300 and 14-24. Any suggestions? (BTW, I have the 17-40, now, and also, I could adapt the 14-24 onto the 5D.

You already have the 5D, so get a CZ21 and the best adapter you can buy (Son?) and give it a try. The CZ21 will hold onto its value
If you don't get the results you need, look elsewhere. What have you got to lose? If you end up switching, then at least you will have tried both...

The 28/2 AE works well, I think some people had trouble at infinity focus on the 28/2 MM. (and/or adaptor dependent). Try setting your 28/2 at close focus and try it.
That's what I REALLY want. The CZ 21 2.8, matched to the 5D. Would you go for one in mint condition, or one where the glass is perfect, but barrel is imperfect (to save $)?
My biggest fear is scratching the rear element of the 28 2 OR the 100 2 Planar on the 5D. Is it safe to TRY both of these on the 5D? How will I know if it's going to scratch?

The first one I had was very well used, had fine cleaning marks on the front element, etc. A Japanese guy loved shooting with it but didn't put it on a pedestal, so I got a great deal on it. I got a cheap, Chinese adapter for it and it was absolutely perfect (as you saw in my castle shot). I got extremely lucky with the adapter. It sometimes takes others quite some time to get the combo right and people usually have more luck with the expensive adapters.
The second one I had and used briefly (selling it for a friend) was brand new. My friend shot about 50 frames through it but never had time to really get into it. I shot some frames through it and it was just as perfect as the first. He had a Kindai (or was it CameraQuest?) adapter on it.
If I had the choice right now, I'd certainly opt to get the well-loved lens and pay less for it.

Even moreso now that I'm using a 5D. The 16-35 pretty much never comes out of my bag anymore, so I just need to sell it off.
