I just took a second look at that shot Jim. I was amazed how focused the face was. It looks like what us old timers would call a 'girl', a pretty one too!

Very nice video Jim.
Were they drilling a new oil well head or something for windmills ?
Hi Bill, their market is fracking existing oil wells to achieve additional production. A well can be fracked multiple times over its life, and apparently, at a cost of millions, it's economically efficient to do it. Every well is different, this well got fracked at 48 different points along the well shaft.
A Buddy called me last week to ask me if I would consider going to Europe for this year's D-Day remembrance. He is leading a C47 formation over and back and will be there for a month doing D-Day and a number of associated air shows and commemorations. The group wanted me to shoot all the activities air to air. Great opportunity, and I was honored that they would ask, but my schedule made accepting the offer tough.
Interesting backstory, it's 18 hours over and 24 hours back, over some of the most inhospitable territory on the globe, in 80 year old airplanes, Yikes!
James Quantz is a great guy and has his technique dialed in, lot's one can learn from him. He's partnered with Westcott, which is interesting because he has been a Profoto user for years. You guys all know me well enough to know that I default to top of the line gear in general. I've looked at Profoto many times over the years and, try as I might, just can't justify their pricing, especially considering the quality products that Westcott continues to produce. Profoto's design elements are more appealing, just a personal opinion, but as far as reliability and functionality, Westcott equipment is darn good. I can buy three or four of any Westcott heads for what one Profoto strobe runs, and my sources tell me that their service is not the best in the industry. I invested thousands in Elinchrom strobes, plug in and battery powered, and they have been very good, paid of themselves many times over, but they were pricey as well and service was expensive and just ok. Most of my Elinchrom's are not supported any longer so I just pitch them as they begin to malfunction. Can't really say anything negative about the Elinchrom line, mine have been fishing away for over 30 years with very minimal maintenance, most of which has been necessary because I knocked something over or didn't pack it up carefully enough.
Migrating to Westcott has been easy, I just wait for one of their multiple sales during the year and add a couple of heads at a time. I have six of the big ones and two of the 200's, along with a bunch of accessories, including the circular stadium light masks.

GO FOR IT JIM! It is probably a "once in a lifetime moment"!

The AC-47 aka "Spooky or Puff the Magic Dragon" rained hell on the NVA. I had the priviledge of flying in one of these a few times over Northern South Vietnam out of Pleiku AB.
You STAYED "strapped in" or your feet would be above your head due to "dead airspace" and a 3-5K drop! The "thermals" during the dry season were pretty bad! Don't know what was the cause of the Auzzie 787 drop but crap happens and it aint the plane all the time!
AC-47 Spooky and AC130J "Ghostrider" My close air support!

Same thing I mentioned several months back...80th Anniversary of D-Day.
I have a customer we make parts for, he restores and make aftermarket parts for military jeeps.
His biggest customer is back in Normandy. He goes back every 5 years or so for the reenactments, it's quite a show.
Would love to see all the military vehicles, and the planes, I see there will be several different squads flying over there with several stops along the ways. Of course I'd be happy to find an old castle to shack up in for a while. The cost of flying there, expenses there and jet lag is a tad more than I'm up for now. Oh, and this is all a few months before the Olympics so might be crazy over there.
But Jim...Do you want the shot or not ?! --
Well Bill, yes, I'd like the shots, but one of my clients needs me in that time window, to the tune of about $40K, so in this case it's "Do you want the money or not......?!

Very good point $
I photographed the 6666 Falcon 900 and Phenom 300 when there were for sale, a few years ago. Before I photographed them, the N number was N6666 with the font being the actual brand font on the tail, but the FAA made them change it to a "normal" font. Supposedly some air traffic controllers found it too hard to read that tail number.
Of course now that Travis Sheridan and Yellowstone own the 6666 ranch, they have 6666 beer, among other things.
Been jetting all over the USA this past week! Went to Fort Lauderdale for a Phenom 300 last Thursday morning, then flew from MIA to LAX for a G-V on Saturday, then Sunday, from LAX to Hartford, CT for a Challenger 350. When I got into Hartford, CT, it was MONDAY morning and my head hit the pillow at 2.40 a.m.
Here's a shot of the G-V I photographed on Sunday. A rather unusual Gulfstream, it didn't have any club seating on board, and no conference table, which is highly rare.

Hope everyone is having a great week!
Glad to hear you, Jim and others are busy!
Keeps part of our declining economy going!

Hope all are having a good week. I am back from the SAE Clean Snowmobile Challenge. It was a good event all things considered. Of course the there was little snow, but with the help of Mount Ripley, a ski hill in downtown Hancock, MI we were able to run most of the events that make up the event. Share some samples of the event here.
First, Acceleration is a popular event. This year it became a hill climb event that excited the students.
