I would love that 100-300 for hockey. There are lots of times where 200 is just too short, and I have to rely on the R5 croppability. But $10K for a hobby is a bit much. If I was going to spend in that ballpark, it would be the 600 first. And I'm not.

--Mark, I know the Balto area VERY well and especially Middle River.
I dont know what brings you to Middle River but Douglas's suggestion of Aberdeen motel is better for the dam. I95 will take you right into Middle River
Wishing you BOTH good shooting!

Thanks Dan. I just PM'd Douglas with my plans. I'm staying in Belcamp. Coming in Sunday night, dam Monday and Tuesday, Orioles-Red Sox Tue night with a friend, then work on Wednesday. Flying home around 5pm that night.
On Wednesday I will be at Martin State Airport most of the day. Our client has some construction coming up, and I'll be giving a site tour to prospective bidders. I'll be here, circled in red.

Thanks Dan! Yes, we are "friends" with the Guard. We access the site through their security portal (I have a base badge) and we meet with and talk to them pretty regularly. Not allowed to take photos on-base though.
During our last round of construction in 2016-2017, we had a trailer near their engine test stand (that square area off the taxiway just to the NW of my red circle). We couldn't have conference calls while they were testing, too noisy and the trailer shook. You can see the A-10's lined up on the ramp at top left-center.
Incidentally, near top center, off the airport, you can see a large white, square building. That was Glenn L. Martin's Plant 2, where they built the B-26.
I don't know if I ever mentioned this, but a while back Canon sent me their RF 600/11 and the RF800/11 to fiddle with. While not exactly the lenses that shoot with typically, I found them to be very good. You can't drive an Aston for the price of a Smart Car but these are both very respectable long lenses and, handled properly I believe they can produce excellent images. This is a handheld (is there any other way?) shot with the RF800/11....................

Will see you next week, Mark! Here are some shots from this past Wed afternoon. The eagles are there but I hope they will do something for you while you are there instead of sitting on the other side of the river watching the bored photographers.

I think with enough light the 800 f11 can be decent for birds, for the price and size I would say canon made a very smart move! Not everyone wants or crazy enough to spend $13K on a big white.
Have a great weekend guys. I started the countdown to the Langley show.
Don't know what this bug is that JIII and I have been kicking around, but it doesn't want to go quietly. He's back down with a fever and I was up half the night hacking my brains out. Had an architectural shoot this morning and man was I dragging. Laying low and editing this weekend. Hope you all have a good one!

Just fantastic images Douglas!
I hope you and Mark have a great time and the eagles are cooperative!

There is a lot of strange "stuff" going around Jim! Take care of yourself and my best bud!

This was kind of inevitable because I can't stay away from JIII for very long. He and his sister have been batting this around for a couple of weeks. I'm actually surprised that it took this long to be symptomatic. Sheila sounds like Mine Mouse today and we are both dragging, but what can you do. As far as I know, I don't have anything out of town or grueling in the next week or so, I'll mend.

Since Suzanne's final "abdomen renovation", while she has not left the house except for doctor's appointments (1x), she just doesn't feel "right". Too soon after "reconstruction"? I am praying "YES". Her "vitals" are fine but......
Thank you CCP! Yeah it could be nothing, imagination, media scare....but it's there.
Just stay cool and relax for a few days! You may have been working, and that doesn't mean just photography, but the mind works, as a rock groups sings, Olde Folkes Boogie..."The mind makes promises the body can't fill......!!"
I always hope to get sports photos with eyes and ball. Well, being the non-conforming absolutist (yeah, I am often beside myself on thoughts), I will find goodness outside of the rules. The first one is a good, standard baseball photo, but the second one just grabbed me for some reason. Maybe it is her concentration watching her base hit or just the really good pose. Rules are made to be broken...
Sure are a lot of friends hurting with illness in my world, my prayer list seems to grow exponentially. Dan and Jim, take care of yourselves and your family, remember, when it gets down to reality, family is all we have. Get well!
ps: Jan-Arie, you continue to be on the list until you are traveling to more airshows, miss your photos buddy!
Thank you Ray, you are a great friend indeed! We'll get through this, makes you ever so grateful for general good health! I know you won't believe it, but I am laying back a little to get this behind me. Even JIII, who is a motion machine, just laid in my lap this morning and we read flying magazine and talked about photography.
On the positive front, my "777" client had a tremendously successful trade show this past week, always good news, and my fracking group picked up $6M in new and immediate work! They sent me pictures of the crew all sitting in the hotel lobby sharing the shots I took, apparently it was a big morale boost for a very tired group of guys. Photography is an amazing thing and has deep reaching effects on businesses and people.
