I am afraid the Blue Angels would disappoint you if seen live, just like Thunderbirds did.
What's your take on Patrouille Suisse? They were at RIAT I think.
I am asking not because I think they are superior, it's just that I feel their style sits somewhat in the middle between the Thunderbirds and Red Arrows (again, also due to different kind of planes)

Why would the Blues disappoint me? As I watched youtube, their style is crazy and full of action! Although now even in the US (as I was told), FAA did put a lot of restrictions against their craziness! BAD
The Swiss team are good demo team, IMO no action, formation flying only.
A fighter pilot must be crazy in flying his plane, this is where the action is , otherwise what would be the difference between him and a truck driver (no offense).
Honestly, my style of living, driving, is (lots of drifting, safety first of course), straight lines are meant NOT to be followed . What's the point of having manual gear box if you are not downshifting from 6th straight to 2nd with clutch doubling and drift (what I do everyday by the way).
Just for the record, I enjoyed the tbirds display. I think they, and all the other acts, did a great job of adapting to difficult and changing circumstances.
... and now we give you the best looking aircraft in show award winner

Anwar,
I'm sorry to learn of your disappointment with current air shows. Clearly you've travelled a long way only to find reality falling way short of expectation. Not good.
Your recollection of the Bahrain show illustrates some of the difficulties perfectly. Yes, the Typhoon could display in spite of wind and rain. Yes, it's no surprise that the Saudi Hawks could not display. Different aircraft and a formation rather than a singleton. BTW, I have fond memories of the Saudi Hawks from several years ago at Yeovilton.
Speaking strictly about the UK Air Show Industry - you may be right - a permanent decline may happen. The new rules have made many venues non viable. Even the biannual commercial show at Farnborough is having major problems due to proximity of housing. Having read the AAIB reports concerning the recent accidents, I have to say the Industry has bought the new restrictive climate upon itself. In those reports there are large numbers of (IMHO) appalling bad practices and blatant circumvention of the intent if not the letter of the rules. Martin Bakers blanket refusal to have anything to do with their seats fitted to civil registered ex-military jets may be the writing on the wall. Eventually the supply of parts will dry up - or the skilled and experienced labour will simply retire / die. ...Show more →
Stupid pilot actions like the Shoreham accident DID harm the whole thing. One polite word (stupid).
If I was a judge, I would sentence him to work at the most miserable place on earth 100 hours a day for the rest of his ...... life with no food no water no rest no bathroom
I wonder if the Thunderbirds have changed their operational rules any to err more on the side of safety considering they have lost an aircraft each of the last 2 years, though thankfully with only minor injuries.

The Blues show would be very similarly neutered in the UK. And the reworking of the maneuvering would end up with a show very similar to what the T-Birds did this weekend.
Their shows are honestly not all that dissimilar. The blues fly a little closer, and the show as a whole is a little tighter, with less focus on the pre-show runup, but fundamentally the shows are quite similar.

They didn't stand down, so the likelihood of them having changed their show as a whole is low...this was all just for UK regs in my opinion.
the toll from his ego could have been so much worse.

See Steven's words below, he expressed my feelings very well.

As was mentioned, Saturday was pretty much a total loss...but this french airforce team's Mirage looks awesome in any light.
Indeed it does. Great captures!

Now see that - right there? That's your problem. Don't bottle this stuff up inside - let it out - tell us how you really feel
BTW, reading the AAIB reports show that the pilot's actions - or inactions - where the least of our worries. The chain of events that allowed him to be in that accident are truly shocking IMHO.
