I find that The Office of the Budget often lacks my “vision” for the path forward . How does one adequately explain that one requires a quality of light not found in my four rolling cases of Elinchrom strobes, or the urgent need to switch to a new camera system when, from all indications, the existing one is performing wonderfully. Aye Laddie, there’s the rub…………. Such negotiations must be well thought out and delicately executed. You can’t tell the guy on the front line what kind of weapon he should use, no one knows better the correct tool for the particular task at hand.

Ah so ….. Lights – Cameras – ACTION! Those new lights are a blast – getting modelling like that in outdoor sunlight. How are you getting on with that new 85mm? Has it made friends yet? That 32 RF lenses over the next four years announcement by Mr Canon made me chuckle. In my head I had you needing a delivery of smoke and mirrors prior to a “discussion” with The Office Of The Budget.
Well I suppose “one man band meets Holywood” was always going to be something of a budgetary train wreck. Personally, I blame that nice Mr Brewington for goading you on …. err …. I mean offering support and encouragement. In all seriousness, the video thing has an ability to add a couple of noughts in all directions. Your recent adventure with the MacBook Pro reminded me of that. You absolutely need 8TB in a portable and I have my whole life in 8TB – with room to spare! Oh, BTW did you see a while back that there was a rumour of the RF TS lenses having autofocus? So with the eye focus system fitted to the upcoming R1 “we” will have yet another retail opportunity. OK, I’ll get right on with polishing the mirrors – can you service the smoke generator?
Good Afternoon Nick! I was just discussing the TS lens line up with my Canon guy and it appears that the AF rumor is correct. I don't see that as a huge advantage due to the fact that I typically focus very selectively when I'm using my tilt-shift optics and I'm generally at f14 to 16 so DOF is pretty good. He did say that he expected the RF/TS line up will be coming sooner rather than later, as in the next 90 days. Interestingly, he mentioned that there is absolutely no discussion of a large megapixel body of any variety, so it appears that those rumors might be a bit off. I'll be happy with the R5/R5c combo and then whatever comes down the pike will be gravy. Sheila will be happy if they delay the R1 til the cows come home. Speaking of cows, 'er sheep, Halle has acquired a baby goat, "Madeleine", and I have a portrait sitting/standing with the two of them this afternoon if weather permits.

Hi Jim. Yes, the autofocus on the TS lenses have me scratching my head too. I wonder if it might be aimed at the longer focal length examples. I’m thinking product shoots with some kind of in camera auto focus stacking gizmology? Grands and Baby goats you say? Sure, bring it on! BTW we are just starting to get spring over here. We have our first tulips out, the daffodils have done us proud and our magnolias are bursting. All much needed good news.

Have the same action here brother!
State Police MedEvacs, flyway for Dulles and BWI, flyway to Camp David and Site 6( ). Military route to Dover AFB from SW.
Jim's nephew's helo unit literally "drops in" from time-to-time!!!
Looking good Jim, a fun project for you both I'm sure.
I keep looking for a board out of place or a crooked one but it all looks straight and true, just like you.
Ha...I'm a poet and didn't even know it. --
Thanks Bill! I would hate to describe the pile of lumber that I left on the floor at Lowes in order to find the good ones you see. It has been a fun project. I believe that I’ll sub out the roofing. Sheila would murder me if I fell off that roof laying shingles.

Hi Jim, I believe we are around the same age. I too used to be a do-it-yourselfer and really enjoyed the sense of accomplishment. Also, many times I could do the job faster and better (in my mind anyhow!).
Anyway, I strongly urge you to stay off ladders and roofs. 2 years ago, I slipped off a roof where I was doing a simple shingle replacement. The result was a compound fracture of my left wrist, broken right shoulder, and fractured skull. I'm grateful to be here typing this email! The old saying that your life can change in an instant is true.

Ya, it's rediculous the crappy lumber and how much it costs now a days. Split ends, warped, knots...
.
Stay safe Jim, we all need you here and even more so on the home front.
Thank you guys, for your concern. I'm nuts but I'm not that nuts. I've been looking at that roof thinking that there is no way I need to be up there doing any part of that. I'll figure out something. After slogging through a two year non-existent shooting schedule a broken whatever would be the icing on the cake. Some things in life you can't control, this isn't one of those. Stay tuned.
