We've got another old plane heading up to Grimes, this time a TBM Avenger, Doris Mae, Wednesday, May 12th. It's a workday for me, so won't be seeing it.
Thanks Douglas! I'm working on a presentation and trying to cull my files at the same time. The drawback, if there is one, to our speedy buffers is the copious "B Roll" shots that just take up hard drive space.
Speaking of hard drives, has anyone priced them lately? I'm in the process of creating yet another 8 bay arraying 18TB drives. Supply and demand has those drives at close to $700 a pop, a $175 increase over what they sold for a year ago. So, $5600 + - for the hard drives and $700 for the array, it's getting a bit pricey. That array will house an original copy of all my client, stock, family and video files in one enclosure so it's worth it to me.

There is a shortage of computer chips because of high demand during covid so that's why the prices are high.
I figured, prices are high and availability is low on just about everything from hard drives to four wheelers. Jennifer called me a couple of Friday nights ago in a panic, the four wheeler she wanted, the one and only one in the country, was sitting on the showroom floor 5 minutes from my house. I went over, bought it, loaded it in my trailer and hauled it out to the ranch Saturday morning. The sales manager said that they are getting 1/3 of their normal inventory and everything is going for top dollar.
Heck, Toyota just made me a ridiculous offer on my Landcruiser for the same reason I guess. Problem is, they can't get me a new one in any color I would accept. Strange times we live in. Try buying 9mm rounds....................., luckily we have 20,000 of them in the safe.

Try buying land around here. I guess 60+ miles is too close to Austin. UPS driver told me his home listing went live late last Friday. Friday evening the realtor scheduled 13 showings Saturday. Then the realtor called and wanted to allow more showings up until 11pm. He politely declined. He listed his home at what he thought was an absurd amount and accepted an offer for $10k more! He said he has been looking for land to buy so he could build a house. Two problems. Land is being bought up in less than 5 hours for ridiculous prices, without people looking at the land. Second, his builder who told him a year ago his house plan would cost $500k would now cost over $800k.
Then the UPS driver showed me a listing for a 138 acre farm listed for...wait for it...$16 million!!! It is less than a mile from my place. I guess he really doesn't want to sell it, but if he does, he will have hit the lottery.
This farm is going to look funny surrounded by developments. Glad I put the house in the middle of the 107 acres!
Well folks...I can't even think of when the last time I posted in here was. I unceremoniously became unemployed last April after 12 years too long at the railway (while it was a fun job for a few reasons, I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy). After a delay I took up a new adventure at FedEx, which has been awesome.
During the course of all that I ended up selling all my cameras, as it was a decision I was willing to make (sell the truck, sell the cameras, keep the ducati...because priorities), but now, as my legal case with the railway appears to be drawing to a close, I'm looking forward to getting back after it.
Unfortunately our fearless leader up here has botched the vaccine rollout on an epic scale, so who knows when we will all be free from the nonsense, but I look forward to getting back out to making pixels of Airplanes in the not so distant future...while my plans for this year have been pushed back for two years, I'll be heading back to Moscow in 2023, along with a somewhat more modest travel schedule than in my previous life.

All of the images you posted are absolutely incredibly beautiful. The one that REALLY does it for me is the second to the last one. Wow!!
Thank you very much, Jay! With the one of the great blue heron over the water, I got lucky. I was walking with my dog at a lake early in A cold morning last week, saw this GBH flying back to his spot after chasing away another heron, there was some fog over the lake, the light was perfect. Here is another shot in the same sequence. I like this one with the wing touching the water but too bad the other wing didn't.

Sad this virus has upended so many lives. Kudos to you for being responsible and taking care of you and yours. Praying you have much success with your new adventure...and get back to shooting, your photos are a joy for many!

Get it while you can!
I read about that, that munitions are hard to come by and also for ridiculous prices.
No pictures for right now, but we just had a joint birthday party at the hangar for Chandler and me, and Chandler's new airplane flew in a half an hour before the big celebration. Didn't think we were going to get it done, bit the weather stayed just a few miles south of the route and our pilot was able to skirt it coming from Memphis. Images to follow, I'm headed back out to the hangar to meet Chandler so we can have some quiet time with his new plane and plan some immediate avionics modifications over at Legend Aircraft.
