When I was over in Texarkana, AR on Friday, photographing a Citation for my client, this nice looking Lear 75 decided to drop by for a visit.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Off to Florida for two Hakwer 900XP's and a King Air. A "working" vacation for me and my wife.

Hi Brian,

Isn't there someone you could schmooze with these wonderful images? You never know until you ask, they may bring you into the fold and give you some great access.

Thank you Jim
problem is i don't really look at my photos as something that i could use to ask about some special access, they are just photos anyone could get, i wouldn't even know who i would go talk to

was just a couple years ago that i thought i better talk to airport security about even taking pictures but never did, figured if they didn't like me there i would soon hear about it, but i was there one time waiting to get pictures of a departing CF-18 when an OPP (Ontario Provincial Police) car pulled up and parked beside me, thought "oh oh, here it comes"...turned out the cop was there to get photos also for his kid

but, again, yesterday was out birding, just as i was about to head home i seen this pair come into town so i headed to the airport instead of home and grabbed these, this time these guys convenietly parked that allowed me to stick my lens through an opening between the fence and a gate, the wind had at the same time switched directions and had the pair heading from the far end of the runway headed my direction on take off though i still have to wait till they are high enough in the air to clear the fence

OK Brian, I think you are selling yourself short, especially given the great images you just posted. If I was a betting man, I'd put a chunk of money down on the fact that those pilots don't have any images like that of them flying their jets. I'd also guess that the airport/Base(?) Doesn't have any PR stock that nice either. Knock on a door there and show them your helicopter images, along with the trainer images you just posted and see if you can find a kindred spirit. I know it's difficult to walk up to that door, metaphorically, or actually, the first few times, but I can tell you that amazing things happen when you put yourself out there. I am a marketing guy to the soles of my shoes, but I have always had to push myself to cold call. Interestingly, some of the most wonderful things have come from doing just that, and you feel like you're walking on air when you leave someplace where you have put yourself out there, taken a chance, pushed your comfort zone, and someone on the other side of that door goes....."Holy Smokes!!! Guys, come and see what this gentleman captured..........!!!" That doesn't happen every time, but it has happened to me often enough that I have come to really enjoy climbing out on a limb just to see if it'll happen again.

I was in a meeting a week ago and the marketing director had other photographer's work spread all over the table in front of me, he had two photographers that he's worked with for years and seemed pleased with the resulting product. Did I like that much, no, not too much, but I told him that every single one of my clients had a photographer that they worked with before me, and some had multiples, then I proceeded to tell him how I would handle his account if I was fortunate enough to be chosen to shoot for him. Thirty minutes later I walked out with a handshake and a $113M project, with a very good chance of having all of their business within a month or two.

I realize that you aren't trying to sell them anything, you would be happy with better access, well so much the better, and you might just make a few bucks to feed your photographic habit in the bargain. In short, your images are ones that you should be proud of and those guys will like them. If there's access to be had, I'll bet you can make some inroads with that work in your hands. Let us know, and best of luck!

My wife created a flower bed outside our bath window so we could see our daylilies bloom. Something nice to look forward to each morning...besides coffee!

As a follow up to my previous post....

The smoke alarm that failed was a few years old. It's battery (9 volt) was replaced Jan 1st, and the detector was tested at that time. I'm beginning to wonder if the "test" button on the detector actually tests the ability to detect smoke, or if it is just a battery check.

The newer smoke detectors use a built in lithium battery that they claim lasts for 10 years. After 10 years you take it down, flip a switch to discharge the battery and toss it in the trash.
