I'm noting the empty back seat...what a waste.

TOPP: Just got the new Olympus E-M1X. It has a hand held high resolution mode where the 20MP sensor creates 50MP images while hand holding the camera. This was my first outing to try it out at an orchid show at the botanical center. Camera held above my head one handed. It has problems with subject movement, but I can't wait to use it for the static line.

Hi folks, I don't post here much but am a big fan of the works presented here. I have been going to airshows nearby 6-8 times a year in the last 10 years. Usually I don't take overnight trips for airshows but this year I an going to the show at the Marine Air Station in Beaufort, SC and the one at Seymour Johnson AFB in NC. They fall on the same weekend (April 27-28). The performers (not static display) of the two shows include the BA and the T Birds, B-2, B-52, F-22, F-35, A-10, F-16, and F-15, pretty much the entire USAF arsenal minus the B-1. I am going to see both, I have never seen the B-52 and the F-15 performing before.
Here is my question, for those who have been to the shows at these two locations, does the paid bleacher seating area offer better position to photograph the planes than the free general public area? I don't mind paying for the seat if I could get better views.
I have not been to either of those shows so I can't give you any hands on advice. Grandstands are tricky things sometimes because you can be wedged in, even though it's a great location, and don't have the flexibility to wield your longer lenses. Over the years I've found that the early arrival guys at the crowd line end up with the best vantage points for photography. The Gathering of Mustangs was different, the grandstands were pretty good for shooting, and I took advantage of them even though I had VIP credentials. Not great for video though, way too much conversation all around me.
Hope some folks here can give you some actual insights into those shows. Enjoy and good shooting! I look forward to seeing your imagery!

We were stationed at SJAFB from 82-85. I don't recall grandstands there though. Make sure you don't have anything on their prohibited list of things not to bring. Bleacher seating, from that photo, looks like it's just that, bare seating, nothing special. Beer garden seating might be better?? Look at their map to see what's where.
(but if you drive an RV there, you will probably have outside food and drink there )
At the bottom of their page, they have this:
