They count Zane, but I'm not sure there's a strip of concrete anywhere that would allow that take off roll! Would have been fun to watch the designers and engineers wrangle that configuration on paper!
Sheila and I took the girls to "Born In China" last night. Those of you with Grandchildren over five or so, take them, you'll all love it. The cinematography is wonderful, we saw it on a huge screen and it was striking. I always watch the credits on stuff like that because I want to see what gear they used and who the colorist was. They showed a little behind the scenes amongst the credits and I was amazed to discover that some of the footage, especially landscape time lapses, were shot on a DSLR. They used a "RED" for some of it as well, but it all cut in beautifully and even on a huge screen, you couldn't discern which was which and I never would have guessed that. I suppose if the "RED" footage was displayed in 4K, you would notice HD clips interspersed, but it was a real eye opener.
One caveat, depending upon your worldview, be prepared to discard the Disney agenda (Walt must be exhausted rolling in that grave), but over all, it's a great, and not too long film to enjoy with the kids. Watching it did push me off the dime on a set of Zeiss Cinema lenses that I've been going back and forth on for several months, "now is not the time to show weakness....."
Haven't been shooting much this year, very busy but not with the camera but I had a fun Sunday evening. One of the families in our church group asked if I would shoot her 1 yr old daughter in the wild Blue Bell flowers in a nature area near our home. The attached photo's are pretty much straight out of the camera, no crop or correction other than a touch of sharpening as a preset for the raw files. Just a few to give you a flavor of just how photogenic this cute little one is.
I am really starting to like this 70-200mm f2.8 series II cannon lens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I thought the original 70-200mm f2.8 was awesome. The 6D is still a pretty damn good camera too.
Really nice Dan! Canon called me right after the II was released and asked if I would evaluate it. My first reaction was, why would I want to, how can you improve on the best lens ever. I agreed, it arrived, I shot with it for a day, ordered mine............. Wonderful lens, and as you have discovered, 2.8 is a slice of visual heaven.

I'd appreciate some thoughts about new gear. Have just sold my 5d mkii, 1D mkii & EF28-70mm F/2.8L.
Am replacing with a 5d mkiv, but can't decide on the lens to replace the 28-70. I was considering the 24-105mm f/4 L IS II, but recently hired a 16-35mm f/2.8 L III and loved it. However, I have started thinking do I really need 2.8 with the decent ISO performance on the 5D & 1DX, and for the price I could get both the 24-105 and a 16-35mm f/4 L IS.
Hi James. I'm not really in your league. Last year I gave up on full frame and went to an 80D. Before then I had a pair of the original 5Ds for 8 years. I also had the original 24-105 L IS. I found that to be a very acceptable workhorse lens. A little front heavy on the 5D – even with a battery grip. IQ good – especially using the lens profiles in modern software – I use DXO. I note with some alarm that the new MK II is a lot heavier than the original – which was no light weight! Moreover, the MK II is a lot more expensive and by some commentary not a lot better in IQ than the MK I. Hummm.
I've never needed the F2.8 glass but I totally understand those who do. I've seen results from the 16-35 f4 L IS and it's very good IMHO. I did contemplate going down the 16-35 f4 L IS + 24-70 f4 L IS route – since I already had a 70-200 f4 L IS. In the end I went down a different route for reasons I won't bore you with here.
I recently sold an 11-24F4 L and bought the 16-35 F4LIS.
Not had a chance to use the 16-35 in anger yet, but the fact it takes 77mm threaded filters and is small and lightweight is a bonus.
Should be giving it a good work out in Alaska in June.

Anyone in the DFW area noticed low fling helicopters and high flying gray props in the last week?
The military has been conducting training around the area...flying Blackhawks and Little Birds down in the weeds and other assets doing circles up high.
Interesting week heard rumbles overhead on several nights.
Apparently they all left this afternoon.
So....here's one catch from a sunset departure out of Arlington Muni
That's a great question and while I have not shot either lens yet, I have read a number of reviews that said they are both wonderful lenses and several people thought the 2.8 was not necessary for their workflow and the cost savings was a bonus.
