Yeah, I don’t think I would stay at Panamint again personally either. With only being there two days my original plan was to just sleep in my vehicle, but my wife ended up not liking that idea and insisting that I get a room. Panamint is just too expensive for what it really is. $100USD a night for a room that probably cost $1500 USD all in to make. That being said, it was nice to wake up and have a shower and breakfast to start the day. Next time I’ll probably rent an RV...although I also want to take my bike down there next time because the roads are epic.
Good to know about lone pine. It was dark when I went through there. I thought about stopping to see if they had rooms but was still sort of leaning towards car sleeping at that point.
A couple of initial takes from WOH, obviously just snapshots -- recent images being a very tough act to follow! -- but hey. Besides, the truck was the only thing moving slowly enough for me to get a sharp capture during the early hours of the show.
The Thunderbird is a moodier take than what I usually do, but was trying to be at least a little different.
By the way, for those who don't know me well yet: any and all critiques on my images are always welcome and appreciated, whether on the thread or in private. The more I can learn and improve, the happier I'll be, so don't spare my feelings.

Uhh ehh well
I love that last shock wave or aftershock photo i like it better then the truck that
we saw at Alliance but both are most impressive.
Two captures of Mike Wiskus in the LucasOil biplane. The (cough) "interesting" processing is courtesy of the strong backlight and my efforts to make lemonade.
The raw developing and catalogue management pieces are relatively new to on1. For a long time they were like the NIK products, a plug in with various filter options to modify your photos.

Interesting, it looks to be a raw developer and Lightroom on steroids.

I'd like to shoot a dang event that isn't backlit! I wouldn't know how to act!

Do you mean the one at RAF Fairford? I've only been there once, but would like to do it again.
Seven years ago, mid-July... but I'll never forget that trip. I nearly always enjoy great karma and things turn out well regardless of how complicated they may get along the way. But on that trip, bloody everything went wrong. Definitely a deluxe, supercharged, character-building experience! I ended up driving a stick-shift with my left hand, on the opposite side of the road, with a paper map, in the second attempt at a rental car, after losing the books I'd brought to read on the trip, using mostly cash because my credit card didn't have a chip in it yet... and I never even found the MATA folks who were there so I spent all three days alone. And soaking wet, of course.
I lived through it, I'm stronger for it, and I have a few great images from it. But I'll admit to having had very little fun along the way.

Scenes like this (I characterize them as scenes of airplane abuse) make me feel a little depressed.
I thought the same thing when I saw that image. What an unceremonious end for something capable of the miraculous. I'd almost rather they be smelted instead of sitting out and slowly decomposing.
Given the state of things around the world, this is way down my list of injustices though.............
