Talking about photogenic subjects, this other Dewoitine has a less shiny natural metal finish, you can see how much of a difference it makes compared to the other plane above:
GoPro has had it's hiccups with new releases, but this looks like a pretty cool camera.
Thanks! I held off when I realized the GoPro 6's were discounted because the 7's were due out. I did look at the Sony but I decided the GoPro was likely better for what I wanted to accomplish.
Plus if you order the 7 Black from GoPro they will take off $100 if you trade in any old digital camera, so I can get the 7 Black for $299.
I think that will be a good camera for you Mark. I'm tempted to buy one just to test out their new stabilization. Might just be because it's dumbed down for their website, but the imagery looks a little weak compared to what I'm getting from my Sony's. I'm going to be doing a bunch of POV and 360 work in the T38 in October, it would be a great time to test it out. On the other hand, I need another piece of equipment like a fish needs a bicycle.

My marathon got rained out, can't say I'm sorry, been a tough week. We got right at 9" of rain in Allen/McKinney in the past 24 hours. We're kind of high ground so it's not a big deal, you just have to know what your routes are when you're headed someplace. Sheila does a prison ministry with some ladies one Saturday a month and it's a three hour drive SSE so I wasn't to happy to see her leave at 6:30 this morning, but dissuading her from a commitment is not a task one can have much success with so I did not try. The good news...........my wife is out of prison.............
Most of this week I was shooting in the beautiful Hill Country West of Austin always a treat, but the projects had some challenges, the kind that come with not being quite ready for prime time, but the photography couldn't wait. The president of the company I was shooting for was in town and stopped by the model I was shooting to say hi. One of the things we talked about was the fact that the images I have captured for them since they have been active in Texas have been instrumental in the marketing of over time $6 billion dollars of their products. Coincidentally, as we were talking about that, a gentleman walked in, looked at all of my lighting and camera gear and asked if I was the photographer who took all of the images he had seen on the web and in brochures. I said yes, and he said those images were the reason he had come out to see the product in person, he was from California and by the time he left it appeared as though he was going to build with my client. I couldn't have orchestrated that morning any better if I had hired the Guy and written the script.
Oh, and the shots turned out pretty good as well..........
PCs can be so frustrating. There's a lot to be said for going with Apple and having an Apple Store handy for support, like Jim does.
But I'm a PC guy. The hard drive on my HP laptop failed a couple of months ago. No harm, it was a gradual failure and I had everything backed up. Thought I would replace the drive with a 7200 rpm 1TB unit and speed things up. Didn't expect the nightmare to install. Unfortunately the HP restore disks were no good. The old drive was finally dead and I couldn't create new restore media, but after hours online I managed to get a copy of Windows 7 and get it installed and licensed. I got things going again, but for some reason the laptop was really sluggish. Didn't expect that with a clean install. Not sure what happened, but it was very frustrating, and when I realized the laptop was 6 years old, I started shopping for a replacement.
Got a good deal on a Dell Precision 7520 laptop on their outlet store. Intel i7, 32GB RAM, 4GB video card, nice display, 3 year warranty, but only a 500GB mechanical hard drive (you can find good deals, but not always in the configuration you want). However, the laptop also comes with an M.2 slot for an SSD, so I picked up a Samsung 970 EVO 1TB drive. I didn't know about these things - it's about 3 inches long, less than an inch wide, and no thicker than a stick of RAM. Amazing.
More frustration. Couldn't get Windows 10 on the Dell to recognize the drive. After more online searching, I discovered there's a problem with Dells and trying to use both a regular SATA hard drive and an M.2 at the same time. Work around is to pull the hard drive and then reinstall Windows on the M.2. Several hours later things finally seem to be configured properly. Operating system on the SSD, and the other drive recognized. Now on to software installs.
Sorry, just had to vent. Hopefully in a few more hours I'll be able to switch over to the new machine. Looking forward to the speed boost.
That is quite the nightmare, Mark, may have been the sign to look at a Mac
Seriously though, I dabble in Mac and Windows land. This HP 1312NR laptop is going on 7 years old now, and I think I'd cry if it gave out, 17 inch display, and I leave it running 24/7. Runs PS6 just fine. Only a 500GB hdd in it too. Wonder if my restore disks would work on your old one? I've got another HP laptop here as well, forget the model number at the moment, it's also on Win7. Turn off "Send Keystrokes to Bing" though.

Thanks Laura. I don't think the disks would work in a different machine. At this point I've saved a drive image on another drive, and once you have Windows working it's pretty easy to create a restore "disk" on a USB drive as well.
But for whatever reason, even with the faster hard disk, Photoshop CC takes forever to load, then often hangs when I want to close it. Even the browsers seem to be much slower. Tried reinstalling Adobe CC and that didn't help.
After 6 years I think it's time to put it out to pasture. I often open 100 RAW files at once, and looks like I will soon have some video files from the GoPro to edit as well. I'll be putting all that new processing power to good use. I'm hoping the new machine will last me another 6 years.
Your experiences remind me why I became a "switcher" years ago. I bought a book at the Apple store titled "A Switcher's Guide", turned out to be relatively unnecessary because Apple computers and their OS is so intuitive. I love their products, do have a bit of a conflict over the company's unending social agenda but I gotta just let that go. The last Dell I bought arrived with problems, Dell was little to no help after hours on the phone and I can't remember why but it was not returnable. Several days of triage didn't solve whatever the problem was and I was at wit's end when a Dell tech advisor told me that I did have a no questions asked, 100% refund, insurance policy on the computer................"Light Bulb...........!!!!!" I asked, "You mean I can lay it in my driveway and run my car over it and I'll get a 100% refund?", he answered "Yup!". I got up, closed the computer, walked out the back door and dropped it in the pool...........whoops! Put it in a big ziplock bag and shipped it back to Dell, the end.
Apple's big marketing line at the time was, "Apple, it just works!", and it was true. That was long before they began to dominate daily life with a zillion innovative products that, ostensibly, cannot be lived without. My new laptop has already saved my bacon several times because it renders 4K video about 7 times faster than my previous MBPro.
I know a pasture where it can be put to good use, if you don't have one there I can nuke and reload Win7 without image disks too.
Good luck with the Dell. I had a not so good experience with some of their servers back when I did IT oh so many eons ago, it seems. Six continuous hours on the phone, listened to the tech getting tea from a tea trolley being brought round, him taking a break to attend to personal needs, but never getting the problem resolved. Finally figured out the solution for myself, got the problem resolved. Told the boss that next time, include me in on the next server purchase decision, not just the developers....
Try a Mac Mini out, supply your own keyboard, mouse, and monitor. I have one of the first generation, bought when they were out about a month, and one from 2011/2012.

Speaking of Mac Minis, did you ever fix your video streaming problem from months back? What was your solution? I remember suggesting a Mac Mini by the TV to make it as simple as could be

Wow! You were in a flight of 18 Spitfires? What a glorious noise that must have made. How awesome!
Only been to Duxford twice (on back-to-back days). My wife and I honeymooned in London in 1988, and one day I dragged her to Duxford. I'm guessing it was a Friday, because not much was happening but they told us we should come back the next day for an air show. So I dragged her back again.
Maybe that explains why she's never gone to another air show with me.
Yes Laura, I guess technology caught up with what I needed because I can stream whatever I want from up in my office to the downstairs 4K Sony flat screens.
Photoshopping like crazy to catch up, with an occasional break for a passing Hummer............
