I had lunch with a buddy from the airport last week, he is a hard working guy who grew up in the ranching and construction business and had a highway construction company based in West Texas. He decided to sell it a couple of years ago and finally found the right buyer early in 2018. The guy poured his heart and soul into his business, but when he finally decided enough was enough, he really unplugged. While we were at lunch he told me all about the last three months. He decided he wanted to see the country with his wife and daughter so he bought a beautiful motor coach and they headed out. 72 days on the road from Texas to Maine and back down through the midwest. He said they would wake up somewhere and having seen all that there was to see, they'd vote on the next leg of the adventure and head out. He wanted to see as many of the historic locations that saw the formation of this incredible country, Paul Revere's Ride, Gettysburg, the estates of the founding fathers, etc. He had never eaten lobster in Maine, or seen NY City, they did it all. They're mapping out one more trip before winter that will take them from here through New Mexico, The Rockies, and back to The Lone Star. Next summer he wants to leave here, go west to SanDiego, up the coast to Vancouver Island and British Columbia, then back down through Washington State, Oregon, etc.
I've dreamed of doing trips like that with all the time in the world to enjoy and shoot stock until I was sick of it, as if that would ever happen. Certainly the trips my friend has the ability to take, will likely never be within my reach for more reasons than I can list, but it did get me thinking about shorter jaunts as our years grow "golden". Ahhh to dream.
Sure is nice to have CPS standing behind me when I do something dumb. My 24 TSE is on the mend as we speak and should be back in my hands, working on Tuesday. I guess I should start looking into walker mounts for my camera, or "Quadra pods" or something.........Sheesh! Two face plants in less than six months, not a record I was searching to break Might be time for a new tripod.....where did I put that RRS catalogue..............?
I hope you do make some time for you and Sheila to get out and do some casual travel together. I would love to do the road trips your buddy has planned.
Hi Mark, Yes, what fun huh?! And this motor home is pretty incredible, 45’, full bath and a half, flat screens everywhere and a 600 hp Cummins to smoothly power you around, pretty sweet, but then at $1M it should be fairly nice
I’m just thankful that the 5DSR remained unscathed. Gets one thinking about redundancy, I don’t have two 24 TSElenses, or two 17 TSE’s, but I have at least two of everything else . My connections in Canon put me an overnight away from any loaner gear, but that’s a day lost, which translates into more than the cost of those lenses. I’ve structured everything so, absent a cataclysmic event, I don’t skip a beat. My 24-70 stepped in the other day (with a little creativity), as did the 17 TSE, but I don’t like compromise.
Had a ball yesterday. I'll try not to flood the site with images, but it may be tough.
Here is the first one I've processed. Where was I (no fair checking the N-number, but I doubt anyone here would need to).

Hmm, 3 throttle levers and the wheel says Ford...the possibilities are endless!
Go ahead and flood away, we don't mind getting wet.

Right, Erich -- and remember, you asked for it.
The best part of this shot isn't that it was taken from the right seat. The best part is I was the right-seater for the flight.
Fun Day in Iowa, even Aviation related. The local EAA chapter hosted a "Young Eagles" outing and were taking young'ens out for a spin. Annie wanted to go and I was all to happy to oblige. It was her first ride in a small, single engine aircraft and she came back all smiles. Her pilot is a co-working and a really nice guy, took good care of his passengers.
Hope all are having a good weekend! And Laura, stay healthy!
Your shot of the small craft reminded me that my first airplane flight was not the one from Boston to Chicago in 1979, but several years earlier at Lake Winnipesaukee on a seaplane. My grandmother was terrified of flying, and thought that we'd be riding the plane on the water. My brother and I got in the back seat, and she got the front seat. All was well, until the plane left the water... thankfully she managed to keep herself together during the ride, which we kids thoroughly enjoyed.
And yes I'm working on that staying healthy, trip to store planned for more yogurt.

I really like the detail rain pics, and yet whenever it starts to rain I scurry for cover along with the masses seemingly afraid of melting in the rain. I really have to add it to my next show shot list.

I wonder. Probably not, as there aren't enough RF lenses yet. If the EOS R is any indication, battery life is also pretty poor for an action camera.
EF isn't dead yet, Canon also announced a 400III and a 600III. Both over 2 pounds lighter than the MkII's (and thousands of $$ more expensive).
And I just got off the phone with my step mom. My dad passed away last night, she said it was peacefully. He would not wanted to have lived like he was getting by these last days. Hospice was supposed to come pick him up, but an hour before they arrived, he passed. His wishes were no funeral, no obituary, no services. I'm going to miss all those jokes in my email (good and bad)
