Got asked this week to provide a portfolio to a printing company for promotional purposes.
Been playing around in Lightroom to see what I could come up, with a loose theme around the RAF 100 anniversary. Edited these two today as potential additions but I'm my own worse critic to come up with a final selection of 16 shots.

Jim, am I remembering correctly that you pre-ordered the Dji Ronin-S? The previews look amazing.
James, I torn on the Lancaster between saying it's perfect as is dark vs wishing for a hint of a rim light along the bomber lower body and tail to define the shape better. The second has a nice watercolor feel to it.

Yes, but then I began talking with the folks at Ikan about their line of gimbals and found out about the new "Pivot" with an 8lb. payload. Truthfully, I would almost rather light dollars on fire than send them to DJI because of their non-existent customer service, but the "Pivot", appears to be superior to the DJI gimbal anyway, so I went that direction. The Ikan sales director was extremely responsive initially, then seemed to take a real personal interest in me owning their new "Pivot". Once I decided that their unit was a good fit for my work, he added in about $400 worth of attachments and gave me a discount on the gimbal itself. Contrast that with my DJI experiences which have basically been, send in your money and don't bother us until it's time to send us more money.
I should have the "Pivot" in my hands before July, and the new Sony 3 chip camera at about the same time. The first assignment they'll be used on is a series of hospitals and medical facilities in and around Kettering Ohio.
Well if being a harsh self critic results in the quality work you produce, keep on my friend! Just don't cut your ear off or anything ............... I haven't seen anything from you that they wouldn't be fortunate to have, but that image of the Lancaster deserves to hang somewhere, and very, very large.

My MoviPro continues to amaze, entertain and generate revenue far beyond the meager investment I made in it. I fired it up yesterday and the marketing intern that was with us shot with it all day as we moved through the facility, creating a "making of......" story.
The more I use the Movi, the more anxious I am for my new Ikan Pivot to arrive. The possibilities and applications are literally unlimited it seems. One of my largest residential clients has asked me to put together pricing for creating stabilized gimbal 4K walk throughs when I am there shooting stills with all the areas styled and lit properly. I showed them the difference between the "walk thorough" product they are currently paying tens of thousands of dollars for, and what this technology allows me to create. The virtual tour people don't light, style, or even light the candles/fireplaces, and the end product is uninspiring to say the least. There is one caveat, when I started to talk about doing some of this atop a hoverboard/Segway, Sheila drew a hard line in the sand and made it very clear that would not be happening. Looks like I'll have to hire Chandler for those occasions I really don't see the problem, a 69 year old guy on a hoverboard........................what could go wrong? ...Show more →

Actually, what the Movi Pro has generated for this project alone will more than cover my Pivot and the second Atomos Inferno that I'll dedicate to it. so Sheila will still be a happy camper.
Laura, are you familiar with the Kettering Hospital? Looks like I have three or four projects in that area coming up. The way things are looking they will be the same kind of night and day continuous shooting schedules that I've been on for the last month so i'm not sure i'll have time to take a breath. If I do have a break, I'd love to buy you lunch. Right now it looks like I'll be there with the architect and designer and they are estimating three to four days of non-stop bop. These kinds of projects have a sliver of time between new/clean and trashed, obviously we want the former. Ideally, we get to shoot the day before the site is turned over to the owner, but "ideally" rarely happens in real life, as we all know so well.
I used to have a very strong preference for twins, and hadn't paid that much attention to the Malibu/Mirage. Now though, if/when I can get my head out of my work long enough to resume flying frequently, that would be my ideal airplane. I love Piper's wide and comfortable cabins, and the Malibu/Mirage provides similar speed and better range (though less cargo space and payload) than my Cessna 414A did, and at a much lower cost per mile.

I'd give the Lancaster a 9.5 out of 10. As already said, I could wish for a little rim lighting to define the outline of the fuselage a little better; but if it were my own shot, it'd already be printed large and hanging. A beautiful piece of work.
