Signs everywhere:
"No standing. No stopping. No Photography. No looking up in the sky."
Apparent security SUV's patrolling along fence/highway interface.
Maybe because the new F 35 has a squadron at the base now (in addition to the F 16 Fighter Wing)?

Oh well.....
Eielson has F-35B's? Don't think so. F-35A's my good man. No STOVL in Alaska
TOPP I guess...I think I've posted this one before, but oh well.
Well, they moved Memphis Belle into the museum today, not many people out there so evidently it was very short notice. Only way I found out was video clip from local news station
Hope everyone has had a great week. Looks like I'm close to 100% and put it to the test when our Buddy from Austin asked me to join in on a project that had a tight deadline. A Tuesday dusk mission involving me in a helicopter first, then jumping in the Bo with Glenn for a sunset air to air. 6:30 the next morning had us at HQ gearing up for a pre-dawn launch into a chilly but beautiful Texas sky. It felt great to be back in the saddle again and is always a treat to shoot a mission with Glenn.
The subject matter on both assignments is classified for the short term but I can tell you that aside from the joy of being able to do what we do again and teaming up with my Bud, Tuesday evening's flight was the first time my new cinema stabling rig took flight. After all of the R&D that went into it, I had a pretty good idea that it was going to do what it was created for. Truthfully, it exceeded my expectations in every way, and did not need a single adjustment of any kind. One component that I added late in the game was an Atomos Shogun Inferno suspended on a Matthews arm. I already have an Odyssey 7Q+, and it's very capable, but a bit clumsy both in menu and size. The Odyssey is not designed to be a great daylight screen, it's even tough to see and interpret in the subdued cabin light. Mad as I was at Atomos for the sloppy release of the first Shogun, they have made up for it in spades with this one and all is forgiven. I'll post some images of it inflight as soon as our missions are declassified.
The new stabilizing rig is so effective that there were a couple of instances where I framed up and started recording, let go of everything, picked up my 5DSR and ripped off a couple of stills, then went back to it. So gratifying to put that much thought (and money) into something and have it be perfection right out of the gate. The dual 8x8's are incredible and are a perfect match in every way. I fired them up about the time we cranked for warm up and by the time we ;launched and our subjects pulled up on us, they were at max stability.
I can show you a little teaser capture taken from one of our subjects...............
About 14 years ago, I spent seven months at Blair Lakes Bombing Range. We built a modern maintenance and barracks facility there for the Air Force. NO CAMERAS was the first commandment. The images burned in my memory of A10’s straffing the targets are forever etched in my mind. From a distance the sounds of a burst were similar to atruck Jake brake but up closer was an experience undescribable. Our winter access was via an 38 mile ice road starting at the end of Cushman and crossing the Tanana River on an ice bridge. Access after the thaw was strictly by air. The Short (a flying conex) was the biggest plane in and out of camp. The pilots referred to the engines as designed to convert diesel to noise.

My Bonanza is slow but its not by design!
"Slow" is relative my friend, it's fast enough to slip through the air with some of the world's best. I dare say there is no other Bonanza that can claim formation flights with that many iconic aircraft and pilots, it's history makes it worth it's weight in gold!
Sorry to say it's happened, Laura. We are apparently back to page 213 as I write. I'm speaking in a high pitched voice at the moment since I feel we've been gelded.... Oh well.
I've been a bit scarce lately. Unfortunately my iron levels have dropped again. Went for a blood test on Monday - Tuesday morning got a call from the Doc's - "Can you come in and see us this afternoon?". Normal level is apparently 135-150. I've been as low as 101 in the past. Monday's test was 87! So I'm now taking iron tablets like they are sweets and hoping that I don't get to enjoy a blood transfusion. I will be "enjoying" a colonoscopy in the near future ... Oh joy. In the meantime I feel like a complete waste of space, and very glad that I no longer have to work for a living.
Recently we had a set subject competition at our camera club. Subject was "A Splash Of Red". A large number of entries where monochrome with red pops - very predictable IMHO. My efforts found little favour - but at least my monochrome with red pop was completely eu natural
