I swung by San Marcos this afternoon to visit their new C-47, "That's All Brother", which is the one that led the Normandy invasion. They found it in Basler's boneyard awaiting turbine conversion, and when the history of the plane was realized, it was bought, restored, and now the CAF has it, and it's being based at San Marcos. It arrived yesterday and is off on its next mission tomorrow; so catch it while you can...

Dang Vic, that was a close call. IIRR, the new storm isn't supposed to linger as long as that one did.
My tree guy came over yesterday and got rid of the tree against the house so tonights storm wont pose a problem. No damage to the house so we were lucky. He'll clean up the mess when things dry out a bit.

I think I'm going to accept the offer, and see if I pass all the new screening.
Laura, that seems like it would mean being out of healthcare for a year. If you don't get appointed again or a permanent position with USPS, will you be able to go back into healthcare if you need to after that break? Seems a bit dicey. You don't even get health insurance unless you get reappointed.
Tough call I think.
Vic, hope you make out OK with this storm. We were fortunate on the North Shore with the last one, I didn't see any trees down, and the only damage at our house was the chimney cap blew off. Right now though I think the snow is pretty heavy and the winds are winding up, so we'll see what happens this time.
Me, I got out of Dodge on an early afternoon flight to Baltimore. Our son is going to have to take care of all the shoveling.

Thanks for posting these, Jo. I hope to see this plane someday. I'm sure it has some marketing value, but I wish they didn't clutter her up with all those graphics on the fuselage.
Re: "That's All Brother."
IMHO, tarting up the plane to look like a highway billboard is a bad idea for this historically significant plane. The information is nice and to have it available at the pane's display is good, but not splashed all over it.
Dear JDE, something bothers me every time I see that aircraft and you nailed exactly what it is. It should be respectfully restored and preserved, not have everything but a pair of fuzzy dice plastered on it.
As far as I know, the plan is to redo all the paint as soon as they have the money. A lot of the decals are peeling off anyway - they’re just vinyl stickers. I believe it is to go back into the original paint scheme.
Thanks Anwar and Mark. Yup, I should be able to drop back into healthcare no problem. I have Tricare, didn't lose that like retirement pay, so all I have to do is keep making the premium payments and I'm good. I could also pick up a PRN position and work occasionally in healthcare while keeping the USPS position.
I see from an email from my bank back there that locations on the South Shore and Cape are open today, while points north are closed. Hope your son does as good a job shoveling as you do. I woke up this morning to a light dusting outside as well
From my excursion back in January

I think the next adventure for the airplane is up to Tulsa, for further interior re-fit, and paint later in the year. The airplane is flying, and that's the biggest step, but the restoration is far from over!
You're right Nick, most of those clips would have been impossible out of a helicopter. I was just thinking the other day that I should fly the drone and cycle all my batteries. They've been sitting all winter in the case at HQ. I still don't promote UAV capability because a lot of airspace is still very difficult to get access to and there are many scenarios that I really have little interest in flying a drone into, but it's a great tool when it's appropriate.
The drone community is bemoaning the fact that the big bucks everyone anticipated when they invested in drones continues to be pretty elusive. One just has to find the right clients, or in my case have the right ones beat you into submission
Eventually I think there will be easier and more streamlined access to a variety of locations/airspace scenarios and that will help tremendously as far as what can be captured, but the economic aspect will most likely remain challenging for all but a few operators.
