Thea and I went for a gentle stroll along the beach yesterday. No wind so the cold was not so bad. Stokes Bay is one of many shingle beaches here on the UK south coast. Many where used as launch points for the D Day invasion force. In particular, Stokes Bay was used as an assembly point for the floating concrete harbour sections known as Mulberry.
Here is a view and a pic of a commemorative plaque. Don't pay any attention to the poor quality - they are just work in progress with the nifty fifty. Instead, you may like to reflect upon the bravery of all who took part in that mammoth undertaking.
Wow, thanks Nick. I had never heard of the Mulberry Harbours, I had to look them up. Quite an undertaking.
Regarding gear acquisition and spouses, I use the concept when answering those awkward questions, like "That's a heck of a camera, what did it cost?".
My usual reply is "I don't tell anybody because I'm afraid my wife will find out." I typically get an understanding smile and it's not mentioned again.

Of course, if your cheap like me .... "Well, it's only handbag money.... dear".... works just fine at the nifty fifty end of the market. That 500 f4 may need something a little more elaborate!
We have a standing joke in our house now, someone will ask, "did you buy a new whatever?", and Sheila will quip, "no, someone just "loaned" it to him". So now, even if it is a loan from Canon/B&H/Competitive, I have no credibility left from the old days when everything was initially "on loan". The difference now it's all met with a laugh, not a week of silence...........
Poor Sheila, over the last 49 years, plus 5 dating, there were many times when she probably should have run like the wind in the other direction. Makes me appreciate her more each and every day. Which reminds me, I have to come up with something stellar for our 50th, I'm thinking it should be a trip, quite a trip............... and most likely I shouldn't bring a camera
That second part is going to be quite the challenge!

A shot that's been brewing in my mind for over ten years now. I finally got the gumption to stop on the interstate to start working on this shot. The moon's coming up on the right side of the second mage, too.

“something stellar” ….. hummmm …... How about a river cruise? Start out with a plane ride to Amsterdam. Then grab a cruise all the way up the Rhine – then Main – then Danube. Finish up in Budapest. All kinds of history / scenery / culture along the way – job’s a good’un! Oh, and about you not taking a camera …. Look! - a squadron of flying pigs.

A RYLO update. I stuck the RYLO on the window of the A36 on Friday to capture our Pitt's Model 12 mission and I was pleased with it's performance . Currently I'm working through a bit of an awkward work flow (more my fault than the RYLO's), I'll post a clip when the folks at RYLO and I work through this. Generally I feel like this little camera is a keeper, software is amazing, stabilization is outstanding, and while I don't typically need 360 degree coverage, there are going to be some cool applications. So far, worth the $499.
I am in the process of finally making some prints of my images so I am looking back trying to find good candidates. Alot of my images were shot, looked at, and then forgotten about.
