Thanks Nick, glad you like it. That elevation presented an additional challenge in that it faces north, which at this time of year receives no direct light. Dawn wouldn't have gotten me the bounce light and the western sky illumination, so dusk it was, just had to wait for the right one. I think the client will be very pleased. The window of "balance" was really narrow because the digital board blew out really quickly the ambient light faded. I was a little concerned when I rolled up to the security building without any pre-approval, but I was able to schmooze the head officer and it probably didn't hurt that I was driving their premiere product.
The "5" is painted on upside down, and so it appears right-side-up for much of the routines.
There is also an extra amount of humor regarding the inverted performance of Thunderbird Five: the pilots all wear tailored flight suits with their name and jet number embroidered on the left breast. The 5 is sewn inverted.

Hello guys and girls.
Hope all having good times with holidays.
A question: why Thunderbird 5 has his printed number (5) upside down?! I first noticed it in last RIAT.
Edit to add TOPP: From the Day of the Dead celebration this year
I've got Air Tattoo booked for next year already (and a good thing too since the FRIAT enclosures have sold out already, and the others are selling at a ridiculous pace). Going to do MAKS 2019, and probably Dubai 2020.
Didn't make Nellis this year sadly since I had already shelled out for Air Tattoo to ensure my place in line. Actually thinking of doing Yeovilton, RIAT, and Farnborough. Crossing my UK shows off completely before I go to the other international destinations.
Other than that...the Snowy Owls have returned here, so I need to get out and get some shooting time in with them.

Ah, even more difficult than I imagined. If that where here in the UK at this time of year the balance window would be less than five minutes. Can't imagine it would be much more - if any - where you are. It's quite funny how a lot of folks thing of landscape photography as being slow and genteel. I find that when the light is good but changing I have the grads going in and out of the holder like a dealer in 'Vegas.
You're right Nick, it's peaceful and quiet, until it's not, then you have 3-5 minutes and it's all over.
Well that does it, break's over, time to head back up the ladder. I dread these 48 hours each and every year, it's such a relief when it's done! There's a Sopwith in the front yard with Snoopy at the controls. I'll send pix when it's all finished.

About RIAT18, a month ago I went to their website to check FRIAT, all were sold out!!!! Crazy.
Any ideas about other (reasonable) tickets to check since FRIAT is no more an option?
Jim, please do not tell me that you are attending this year!
You're safe Anwar, I have no idea where I'll be that far in advance and they're sold out, so no worries. We are going to have to get together sometime soon though, wish we weren't half a world apart.
Going through old images and came across this one. I'm a retired Sikorsky Aircraft employee and I'm a passenger in the S76. It was taken during a photo shoot for the Sikorsky calendar, they wanted the S76 flying in front of the Chrysler Building close to sunrise. It was taken by a Sikorsky photographer flying in another S76, I don't remember the year but probably from the mid 1990's. All in all it was a great ride as we flew around NYC for other images after this was taken. Please excuse the image quality, I got a print of the event and this is a scan of the print.
This is a "progress" shot, the inside is pretty much finished as of 30 minutes ago, lights on the bushes tomorrow and I'm heading to the hangar............... of course, the last three days have been some of the best flying days in 2017, but a guy's gotta do what a guy's gotta do!
I had to get it all done because from December 4th to Christmas Eve every day is booked, which is a nice way to wrap up a great business year!
Please excuse the iPhone shot, better ones coming up.
