I took this shot last year at Love Field for a major brokerage firm. This is their style and I shot it. Personally, it wasn't my style but since they signed the check, I did what they wanted.

With an attitude like that, you'll never succeed in business.

Hate to burst your bubble, but I've been doing this now, full-time for over six years and have at least ten cover shots under my belt for various brokers and charter operators. Maybe that isn't successful to you, but I think it is and my attitude is just fine, thank you very much. I have come so far in six years from where I started! Never in my life did I ever think I'd have a photograph of mine on the cover of Executive Controller, AvBuyer, Charter Hub or Business Air magazines! It brings me great pride to see one of my photos on a cover of a magazine and I am sure Jim, as well as others who have had that honor, understand what I am saying about that. I am so grateful for what all God has done for me in pursuing my dream "job". I consider myself to be very successful in this business and it is my goal to continue to be even more successful in the coming years.

As I said, and if you would READ and UNDERSTAND what I wrote previously, this was and is my client's style and that is what they wanted and I shot it. The client is the one paying my check, so I do what they want.......it just wasn't my style of shot. I don't like all the lights in the background of this jet......but that was the location the jet was in, so I did the best I could in placing the jet in a somewhat "nice background".

Erich, in terms of processing my images, no, if these were for my own personal use, I wouldn't put an artificial background in them, that isn't a true photo. As I said earlier, this type of style of "digital art" is what a lot of brokers prefer. They are not "into it", like everyone else is on this thread, who enjoys photographing anything that flies.

They are "into" selling jets and making $$$$ and they like the "digital art" photos for their ads. So I deliver what they want and they are happy. Happy clients is my ultimate goal since they are writing the check.

I'm not buying much, if any of that logic, but it's not my deal so who cares? I have found over the years that I am much more critical of my work than my clients are. Does that mean that I don't need to listen to their needs, nope, but I've discovered that if I like it, they'll love it. We definitely have a different client list, that we can agree on. This is a free country, once again, so shoot whatever you would like, in whatever style you would like. Best of luck.

Jim, I don't care if you buy any of my logic, I didn't like the style of your shots that you posted from Addison and Love Field. If you are insinuating that I don't care about my work, or that I am not critical of my work, you are very wrong about that. I am my own worst enemy, always critiquing my shots, looking at other people that do what I do and comparing myself to their work. Some of them have shot for over 30 years, so I have a LOT to learn and intend to continue to learn and stretch myself as a photographer. If not, why bother?

The point I have tried to make during this thread or this part of the thread is that my clients LOVE what I do. They are brokers, they are not av-geeks like the rest of us. Yes, some of them are pilots, some of them have managed large flight departments, but they don't care a thing about whether I make a "pure background" shot, or use a "digital art" shot. They just want the jet noticed and they want it sold. Simple as that. I've had clients that have told me after I have delivered the finished shots, "I have had this jet on the market for x amount of days (a long time), I sold it within six weeks after your photos came out". That is what I like to hear, most of all. I provide a service. Simple as that.

Your clients are different than mine, I understand that. They like what you do, my clients like what I do. We just shoot different styles, just like some artists would rather shoot in black and white, while others want to shoot in color. Either way is not the "right" answer or style...........

That is the point I am trying to make, yet it seems to me, some people who have commented on this thread, don't "get it"

I do like the shot you just posted of the BBJ taking off from the runway. Now that is a cool shot on anyone's list!

I wasn't at the end of the runway for this one... he was crabbing so much for a crosswind landing he happened to aim right at me.

I don't know how many folks here know Les Baldwin from ISAP, but the word is that he passed away. I don't know any details of how or when (today; I assume). RIP to a talented photographer.

very nice aerial images as well as images in and the vicinity of airports.

if i were to hang around the local airport w/ camera and lenses, you can bet i will attract the prompt attention of law enforcements... :-)

what are the chances that an average enthusiasts like me can obtain authorization to capture aircraft takeoffs and landings at end of runways outside the airport grounds?

any suggestions on how and who i can contact to obtain such permission?

thank you in advance for the inputs.

Rodolfo, welcome back! I don't think we've heard from you since the week before you and your family were scheduled to meet Pope Francis. We've been waiting for an update!

Thanks to you and all others for the shout-out. I'm bound and determined to keep in touch with this group, however hectic things get and even if I have to go AWOL every so often. But I miss y'all... you're a part of my life.

If I don't get back to this in a reasonable time, remind me to tell you a story or two about our trip to Rome and meeting His Holiness. I've been around the block more than most and I'd like to tell you I'm a pretty level-headed bloke... but I'll be happy to admit to ending up in tears. It was an incredibly inspiring, even life-changing experience.

Packing now and way behind schedule (never happened before, can't imagine me ever running late...) so I can't give it the proper attention now. But I promise to come back to it.

Dear MA2A Friends,

I'm very tempted to continue this diatribe and "unleash the Kraken......." for a second time in our history, but out of respect for all of you, and the spirit we have collectively created here, discretion is the better part of valor, and nothing, absolutely nothing, is worth any scenario where even a single one of you might think less of me. So, it is with no small amount of self discipline, I bid you good evening/or morning, depending upon your whereabouts.

Did you notice the big grinning face at the end of my post?

Basically I am saying that your attitude of delivering the customer what they want, and not what YOU want, is the proper attitude to have if you want a successful business.

To many businesses fail because the owner forgot rule #1, "The customer is always right". It seems you know that rule, and that's part of the reason why you are successful in your business.

I wasn't putting you down, or attacking you. I was saying that your attitude has contributed to your success.

My sincerest apologies to you. I did misread your post and comments. I want to thank you for clarifying them. Yes, the customer is always right and my customer comes first! I am so blessed to do what I LOVE to do and get paid for it.

Thank you for taking the time to explain your comments, I appreciate it very much.

Jim,

What is your problem? Unleash the Kraken?

Who made you judge and jury?

As I've told you over and over in this subject matter, our clients are DIFFERENT. I didn't care for your style of shots in the three photos you posted and my clients certainly wouldn't.

My clients do not want all the background clutter that you have in your three shots, especially that Gulfstream jet behind the Phenom in the first photo you posted.

If you like what you posted, fine and dandy, especially if your clients are happy. I also don't care for the fact that you left the door down on the Phenom, but that is my personal taste on the way I photograph a jet when it is for sale or charter. We are different.

There are numerous styles and ways that someone can present a photograph or the finished product.

Obviously, my style is very different from your's. It is as simple as that and if you can't grasp that fact, I don't know what else to say.

Your style is NOT the only style of shooting or delivering a finished product and you are certainly not the final authority over what is a good or bad photograph. As long as my client is happy and satisfied, that is all I care about.

Now get off your high horse and lose the holier than thou attitude. I've had enough of it.
