And missing Jim's presence here. Hoping he's catching up on his backlog of work so he can have a lot more fun at Alliance this year.

Edit to add TOPP. Haven't shot a camera since the middle of August.... Here's Felix from the mouse's point of view..

I'm looking at that liminous green eye and wondering who's on the menu ....?

This thread is different than most on FM. It's sort of a social hour for a bunch of folks with common, but widely varied interests. Most of us started here for the aircraft but now it's much more. Many of us have met in person, and we have just as much interest in one another's personal lives now (and probably more) than we do the aircraft.

People come and go, but a lot of us have been here for many years. I think my first post was over 10 years ago. It's not for everyone, but it works for us.

I'm new here but this thread is a delight --- interesting subjects, fabulous photography, Stunning A2A and air-to ground, and diverse interests to flesh out the minds and hearts behind the camera. Great fun, and totally unique in my seven years + of FM experience. Wish I'd invested more time here much earlier.

Hard to tell, Charles.. Here's a comparison between the 70-200 f/2.8 and Felix

Glad to have you here, @unclechuck.

Laura, that's not a cat... that's a space station!

As for Jo, Jim, and Anwar, everyone runs into times in their life when they need to switch gears for a while. Too much other stuff to handle, or subject overload, or what-have-you. I've certainly taken my share of time off, but have always been here in spirit. The important thing is, while there's a "spirit" to uphold, those who are here uphold it; that's what honors the missing most. Hopefully they'll be back after they sort through whatever is going on. We'll keep their place available.

I had to pass on it this year for the memorial service for my mother in law, back in Massachusetts.

So sorry for your loss. I would have been honored to meet you in Dayton.

Dissapointed that the Thunderbirds were grounded, but otherwise a great trip.

Well, I will put a few of the small guy's (RC) since all the close airshows are gone and the airport chased me away. And one will have nose art, so if it offends the management and I get kicked off, it was nice knowing you all. I guess I have to find out what is acceptable for the new rules. Since I will be the least missed here, I will give it a try. For if I can't post what I take, there isn't much use of being........Mike

Mike, that ain't so, you would definitely be missed. I doubt you'll get kicked off for the Liberator. If so, then I'd be kicked off for the stuff in NMUSAF, or the art museum.

No more airshows around here either, best I can do is either the base, or the airport and the minitubes that fly in there

I heard about the grounding when I got into my room at the inn. I'd heard the weather was pretty awful that morning of the accident, very thankful neither pilot was injured, other than the pucker factor of 1000+. I do plan on going next year, and into the photo pit for sure. It would have been an honor to meet you too. (now to go find Jo's post about those logos and print one or two for tshirts )

I've been MIA from here for too long; too busy flying my new (to me) A36 and shooting only occasionally. I come back to find that Jim, Jo and Anwar are also missing, and that Laura and Rodolfo are posting up a storm.

But I'm at Wings Over Dallas this weekend and yesterday we did a little A2A. Remember that time when you had a pair of Mustangs and a B-17 in the viewfinder? No, I don't either.

I got to stretch the new D850's legs a bit: I think it's going to be amazing once I sit down with the manuals...and buy a bigger XQD card, or six. When it filled the 64GB XQD and started writing to the SD, it slowed down so much I thought it was broken!

Amen to missing Mike if he left. And by the way, I'm sure that policy won't apply to the kind of things we do here... there are far more risqué corners of FM I can think of, and nose art, or historical issues, are just not the kind of thing advertisers are worried about. I'd have an immediate word with Fred if one of us got hit for something like that, and I'm sure he'd see it our way.

The real concerns are things that could show up in crawlers (or worse, the news) as being either pornographic or related to things like racism, hate speech, etc. Recently (and IMHO finally) there's been a huge backlash against the latter and quite a few major brands have been burned by finding their ads placed on some neo-Nazi page on Facebook, so they're cracking down on how/where their ads are placed.

Mike

These are great shots --- kinda neat too that the planes have some wear and tear which helps make them more realistic. Real war birds don't have opaque 'glass' --- but they aren't all shiny new either.

Neat Series

Gorgeous shots, Steve. And great to "see" you again, I've missed our conversations.

As the last few years of mayhem finally start winding themselves down, I'm seeing all signs point in good directions. The family's doing great, we're finally in our new home, the company is growing and I love what we're doing, I'm finally shooting again (even if just a little so far), and I'm starting to think I may be able to resume flying next year. Gotta go fight for my medical first, and then I'm thinking/dreaming about things like a Diamond DA62 or a Piper Malibu/Mirage.

Still pretty nuts around here, but I think we've turned the corner and are on our way to a much less stressful time. Webesee...

You noticed Ernie! Some of the pilot figures in the planes really make you wonder in the realism they exhibit. Fits with the quality in the build these gents go to in their planes.
