Some interesting stats, we weighed 102,000 lbs. on departure from Bodo with 45,000 lbs. of fuel on board. That gave us the range to go from Bodo to 90 Degrees North, then on to Perot Field without refueling. The Gulfstream 650 ER is a dream of an aircraft. Look at other business jet wings and you will see strakes, vortex generators, aileron and flap hinge fairings. Then look at the Gulfstream wing, it is just beautifully clean, because it was designed correctly from the get go, no need for post design gizmos to make it fly better.
Jim, out of curiosity, how does Bodo to NP to Texas add up in terms of mileage? That's pretty impressive and I'm trying to get my head around what 45k lbs of fuel looks like...
I don't have a mileage on the tip of my tongue, but it was 2:50 from Bodo to The NP and 9:50 from there to Perot Field, somewhere around 6000 statute miles I'd guess. I'll find out exactly when we get a summary of the expedition. The G650ER has an 8500nm range, at .925 Mach, it's a beast.

Now you got me curious. Based on the weight (per (US) gallon) of Jet A fuel, 45,000 pounds equals 6,579 (US) gallons. I can't really wrap my head around that volume/amount, so I imagine it this way....
I usually gas up the truck every couple of days. I try not to run it below half a tank, so a "fill up" is around 13 (US) gallons. 6,579 (US) gallons is equal to 506 of my average "fill ups" on the truck. Basically, that's 3 1/2 years of fuel at my current usage.
If you want to stick with volume, 6,579 (US) gallons will take up a volume of 879.5 cubic feet, or 24,904.2 liters. I still can't wrap my head around larger volumes, the "fill up" comparison is easier for me to visualize.
Well, the F-4 held a little over 2700 gallons with two 370 external fuel tanks. Without afterburner following takeoff they could easily fly a 3 hour mission...a drag for crew chiefs and the WSO. On a regular combat training mission they would stay airborne for about 1.2 - 1.5 hours, depending on afterburner usage and we would refuel about 1800-2000 gallons.
1:43 am and I just finished editing all of the stills and video clips from our trip. Sure hope that they like them. I am at that point where I have been looking at them for so many hours that it is all a blur. Need a weekend of James time to clear my head..........

Yeah, glad I wasn't a refueled on them. I kept my distance by staying in the nose.

Anyone bought memory cards or hard drives lately? Just ordered several 1TB CFE cards, they were $279.00, they are $1128.00.........yeah AI is great..............
Yeah, data centers! Meta is building a super data center in Temple, Rowan has paid off the city to build 3 of their own. We have a very limited water supply here in Central Texas, so bad the cities and water districts levy water restrictions during the dry months. I am sure 4 big data centers built in a drought area will not be using that much water. The Rowan PR guy claims (without data) they will use 4000 gallons per day to replenish their cooling water they recycle. We get, on average 34 inches of rain a year. Houston gets over 80. Why here? Lower taxes, lower wages and city leaders who can be bought.
By the way...there is a Temple city petition that is circulating to oust the greedy ones.
Sad to hear that Ray, whatever happened to being "a public servant"? There is so much fraud and graft coming to light, and you know it is a mere glimmer of what is really taking place. They should be building jails and populating them with these people.
I need to build another OWC 8 Bay Thunderbay, the hard drives are $1,200 now, the enclosure is a grand. That's just about triple what my last one cost. I almost ordered 8 32TB drives when they first came out 6 months ago, they were about $600 each, should have pulled that trigger. I doubt we will see a roll back in our lifetime. Guess I should go ahead before the price triples again.
I don't really have an obligation to archive all of my assignments, but it just seems like the right thing to do for my clients because they have so much invested.

For the life of me I can't remember what the smoke was for, possibly something like the great war display team that dropped smoke bombs
The Canon 5D was a forerunner in the Canon line up mate!

I am somewhat surprised they collided. I have seen them numerous times, I don't recall they flew that close. Nevertheless, it's dangerous business. Glad the crews are OK.
