What an incredibly generous offer, thank you Jim. I'll think on that, but I'm afraid I'll like it too much!
Maybe I'll see you at Alliance, I have begun to actually toy with the idea of going this year....
Mark
My pleasure Mark, and yes, you would like it very much, but that doesn't mean it's the right camera for you. That extra cash could go toward some nice glass you've wanted. There are few downsides to a 1DXII, price being the major one. The only other drawback is, like it's predecessor, if you shoot those high frame rates it's going to toss stuff all over your sensor. The II is not nearly as bad as the X, but it still does it, and you have to become pretty adept at cleaning your own sensors because you will be doing it after every couple of games. The offer stands, even if you would like to shoot it for fun, just let me know.
P.S. I PM'd you with some thoughts on several upcoming events.

J-A, you are a master with those moody, dark sky shots. I know they are yours even before I see your name.
What are your thoughts on the 5DIV for action? I know you only had it as a rental, but did you really miss having another 3 fps?
I'm seriously thinking of entering the world of FF with one this fall, it will become my primary ice hockey camera, and most likely everything else.
I'm looking for better high ISO for events and ISO5000 hockey rinks (compared to my 7DII). The multiple f/8 AF points would be nice too, since my longest lens is a 100-400II that I can extend with a 1.4x TC.
I suspect the 1DxII would be better for my purposes, but that's twice the cost for maybe a 20% benefit, and much lower resolution. I would rather save the $3K and put it towards my first big white, maybe a 500L.
Hi Mark I was very pleased with the results of the 5DIV even strait out of the camera even when you use it in bad light like it was at Fairford the quality is a quantum leap ahead of the 1dMK4 that I have.
Sure the fps is a bit slower but was good enough for me maybe you miss one or two but overall it was very very good.
The technology in the body comes from the 1Dx2 so you can't go wrong there
Also used a 7Dmk2 from a friend and that was lightning quick but the quality from the 5D4 trumps it not saying it is bad but you are getting spoiled quickly
any chance you can rent something near you? then you can try it
I'm also thinking of a new body hoping that they will release the new 7D3 next year
And I'm also in negotiations with a friend to buy a 500mm Is 1 for a very good price.
So good luck in you search for a new body..

Mark, that was April of 2016, and yes, Middlesex Fells, to be precise, "The Belle" as it was known, right on South Border Road. Played many an ice hockey game on figure skates there, back in the days of "girls didn't do that" Had to wear figure skates though, cause boys' hockey skates were too wide for my feet. I got a hockey stick for Christmas one year

Laura, love the pond. I don't remember you being up this way in winter 2016? I must have missed that.
Thanks Charles, I do wish the church would bring back that festival. It used to be a yearly event and drew large crowds every year. I shot those photos of the festival the weekend after the funeral.

Lovely pond shot, First Class. Suggest a canvas print of the "aerial' scene would be a serious contender in the next art show ---
