My son just earned his latest Type Rating, to add to his already formidable list. I'm so proud of him. Three SOLID weeks at Flight Safety in KORL. (Picture courtesy of Embraer.)
I apologize for my absence, been in the air pretty much solid for the last three days. I'm working on a very involved project for a client, still images, helicopter stills and video and drone work. The drone work was a bit out of my comfort zone so I had to call my tech help to walk me through it, even then my knees were like rubber. Thanks Mike! you have nerves of steel Buddy!
I'm at HQ today, flying and post processing images. I don't get a lot of time to hang out here, sure do love it though.
FYI, anyone thinking about an action camera, I just ran a side by side test in the air this morning of the latest GoPro and the Insta360 Aces Pro, should be interesting. I'll be back with an opinion. The Aces Pro is a bit larger, which I kind of like, and has a flip up screen, a big feature in many situations. The Aces will shoot 8K, but all the experts tell you not to bother because the quality is marginally better, but it limits frame rates and other critical settings so teh trade off is really not worth it. Happy Veterans Day brother!

Looks Like I'll be headed back to Birmingham when my project is complete, the client wants finished shots of it. That's great news because I'll schedule it so Joe and I can spend some time together.

Sounds great Jim. I look forward to hearing from you!
Hi Joe, I checked on the project yesterday when I was shooting for the client. I'll keep you posted. They might send me back to shoot some progress images.
Just ordered an RF 70-200/2.8 Z and was faced with a choice that I had not anticipated......."white or black?" I've waffled about three times and finally ended up choosing the traditional white. I think that I'll just trade in my RF70-200 and avoid the hassle of selling, someone will love it because it is really brand new.
Interesting, I read a white paper on the RF70-200 Z, it claims that it is the sharpest zoom in the world. Every bit as sharp as the new RF100-300.28 that sells for $9500. The testing facility said that, with the 1.4 converter on it, the imagery is indistinguishable from that of the 100-300, just a slight f stop increase, and a bunch smaller.
Hope you all are doing well Haven't done much shooting lately, other than some foliage stuff. Went to Conowingo Dam for the bald eagles yesterday for the first time this season. A lot of juvenile eagles, the wind was blowing the wrong direction so I got a lot of butt shots. Enjoy!
Started out the morning with my Burleson job, raced back to Dallas to shoot a pool project. The backyard was covered with leaves and sticks so I headed home to get my blower, returned and got the area immaculate. The light wasn't quite ready yet so I zipped down to Competitive, Fed Ex and I pulled in at the same time, grabbed my new RF70-200/2.8 Z and headed back to my pool assignment. Put the new lens right to work shooting details. The sun at this time of year does not favor north oriented projects, but dusk was pretty spectacular . Years ago I used to get really frustrated with a scenario like that and I'd shoot even though I knew I'd never use the shots, now I just analyze it and shoot it when it's right.
I don't know that I see a huge difference in sharpness between the legendary RF 70-200/2.8 and this new lens, but the cinema lens features and internal zoom make it worth the switch.
