Forgive me for using this thread as my own personal bugtraq. Apologies who have read these comments elsewhere...
There have been some terrible deletions of posts that ran to many tens, and even hundreds of pages. It really shouldn't be possible for the thread starter to delete everyone else's comments. It's very easy to disable it, but the question is, how we introduce the thread once the OP has gone. I don't see why it shouldn't just read: "The original post has been deleted".
One other feature that I think is fairly urgent, btw, and which i will work on, is more info than the thread subject in the board listing of threads. People routinely use very uninformative subjects, and it's quite annoying. I might write a bit of code which shows the 5 longest words from the OP content in order, after the subject itself. We might find a better algorithm to expose real content on the board listing. We could even allow thread visitors to vote on whether such a précis should be shown instead of the original subject...
Usability bug: there is a superfluous page link. For instance, at the bottom of this page is currently displayed "21" and "end". One of them should go. In addition, the "end" link gives a Javascript error.
It's not a bug, it's a feature. The number links you to the top of the page, like other numbers in the page list. 'End' links to the end of the thread. It's neither contradictory, nor redundant, nor confusing, and many members have said they like it, since it saves time when checking a thread with only one new comment. If you can think of a better way to give access to the end of the thread as well as the last page, let me know, I'm all ears.
What is funny about this is that it does work in threads with multiple pages. The JavaScript error only happens in 2 situations:
1) By clicking on "end" on a single page threads (The end link is there alone)
2) By clicking on "end" on the last page of a multiple page thread.
In the case of 1) or 2), instead of giving the link to the last post, we get: "javascript:void(0) onclick=" and then an error.
If you click on the "..." next to a thread, the Javascript box appears, asks you for a page number, but doesn't work. It doesn't know the thread ID- so the link you end up with if you type in 11 is: https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/board/18/10

It shows https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/board/18/10 on the address box but you are actually on the correct page (page 11). I see your point though, it would be better if the address box page number would actually match the actual page number...
this is the thread linik that shows the page 22 I mentioned above. It is still a valid link and still retrieves a page22. I just refreshed it and got the same thing (& my cache was flushed 15 minutes ago.) https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/599546/21#lastmessage
Actually the above link takes you to the first page of this thread. This thread has now only 18 pages because I changed the number of posts per page from 20 to 25. That made this thread have 18 pages instead of 22. As far as I can see no posts were deleted.
I'm glad Image Upload is fixed. Thanks Richard! You are the best!
BTW: I found the elf and he is now dead.
Wow, the FM Forums have never been so blazing fast.......Congrats and thanks for all the hard work. I don't have a suggestion for the forums but for the FM Hosting. The Category of Share your photos. The first 8 images never rotate off the board. I was just thinking maybe someone could have a look and include it in the early spring cleaning going on.
Thanks again for all the years of dedication to the photographic community.

Hi Fred,
Yup, that's the one......
By rotate I mean those images remain in place. When someone posts a new image it does not go into the number one position but in the eleventh. One example, on the options menu choose most popular.........That is definitely your image from Mono but it ends up in the eleventh position on the page.

That is how it's set-up. The system got a little messed up because of the 2-day delay though. Once you get all the emails since the migration, everything will work normally.
I'm still receiving multiple notices for the same thread. Even new threads that were started after the migration.
ACK! Something that got "fixed" recently now is back to broken (AKA the old way!)
Those of us with FireFox will Ctrl-Left-Click to open in a new tab. The old code always opened in a new tab _AND_ opened in the current tab.
Sometime recently, Ctrl-Clicking started just opening in the new tab. I thought that was an intentional fix.
Apparently it wasn't! Can we have that back? Middle-click in FireFox also works to open in a new tab... if you have a middle mouse button and your driver works (which for some reason, mine conks out sometimes).

John
This was indeed fixed John. However, the fix introduced a JavaScript error on viewboard. As soon as we figure out this error, the Firefox new tab issue will work as you described.
Great work you-all in handling the changes. The Speed increase is Fantastic. Thanks.
A few items that might be considered.
1) as mentioned above the "..." popup page number to go to window does take one to that page in the particular forum and not that page in the thread. At least in the Canon Forum.
2) The increased number of threads per page would be "optrimized" a bit better if I didn't have to scroll down to see all the threads on the page. Last nite, it was that way when a more compressed format was used. A few people mentioned things were "close together". But I think they were fine.and I don't see the need for the underlining. So here is a strong vote for the more compact display.
3) I would bet that most users use the browsers' tab feature. So when looking at the links, you might want to keep that in mind. ie. we don't "click". we "Right click" to open an item in a new page. Thus the "..." does not work well for a new tab at all.
4) And I've got a suggestion for smoothing the communications as these improvements are being made. You could get better / more useful feedback as a result. It could be helpful if we knew what was being changed. Then we could better understand which "new" things we see are changes and which are derivative bugs. The idea might be to have a thread written to only by FM and the change team. That thread could post what changes are being made. Then this thread would still be used for feedback on bugs and changes. We would know if we were commenting on a change or if we had found a bug. But I'm not trying to add anything to that work load you all have.
5) Is it possible to add a "preview" option for posting threads. That would certainly be a help for fixing my atrocious spelling.
6) Question: Is there a way to cancel one's email notifications for a thread? & is there a way to add email notifications for a thread where one is only "lurking"?
