I think I prefer the second, because it seems more balanced
to me. In the first, the piece of wood is too parallel to the red
arcs, and my eyes are quickly led out of the picture like on
a visual autobahn. In the second, the wood and two growths
of grass form a stable triangle. Great colours in both.
Thanks for the nice comments everyone. Very much appreciated.

Nothing special? (I won't say anything )

Marc,
Thanks for the C&C. I appreciate your input. I like both shots and do like the simple composition of #1. I didn't think of it as the "Visual Autobahn" but perhaps it is a bit.
These are wonderful images Klaus! The first images is top notch with color and composition. I really like the repeating rythym of the arc from the foreground rocks all the way thru to the background clounds in the sky. I am caught wondering around the image thru what I see as many as 8 seperate arc layers here. The white piece of driftwood is a little disturbing to me, I might not consider it an "autobahn" as Marc stated but I feel it is more of a speed bump that is breaking up the fluid sweeping arc rythm in the image. The color and shape of the driftwood seem out of place compared to the rest of the image.
