Walter,
The D&S has really upgraded since I rode it last in 1977. Wow! That's 30 years ago! Whodathunkit? Time really flies when we're having fun, or are otherwise gainfully employed. Guess I'm just gonna have to head back there and see what's new and/or exciting. Thanks for sharing your pics! This is a great thread!
Great thread. I used to work on the SP, while in college. So this is a lot of fun!
Here's the Tehachapi Loop, between Tehachapi and Bakersfield, one of the engineering marvels of the RR world!
The Loop allowed the rail to make the climb, otherwise too steep, by letting the train climb 70 feet in zero distance!
Here's another of UP 844. This is on the curve through Palmer Lake, Colorado. The train is the Colorado State Fair Special and the date, August 25, 2007.
Since I started this thing I guess I'd better do my part to keep it going. Took this one in late April on the CN main line in Chilliwack, B.C. And, yes, that is a CP train. CN and CP share their main lines through the Fraser Valley and Fraser Canyon, with all westbound traffic using the CN line on the south side of the river while eastbound movements are on the CP main which is on the north side.
Moments before I took this a gust of wind blew a "flurry" of blossoms off the tree and across the track. I was hoping to catch the train in a similar storm but luck (or the wind) wasn't with me. Would have made a neat picture...
