I know a lot of people don't care for lens flare - but i sorta do... I was waiting for the Crescent to come by when a lady with her two kids wanted to talk shop about cameras. I almost didn't get away in time to get these - and the settings aren't what I'd have liked - but here they are...

Dear JBear,

Thought I'd sneak over here and have a look. Great shots Buddy!! Mike Skaggs is a controller for BNSF, we should see if he has any tips in cool places to shoot trains.

Now that sounds like a plan! I'm a big fan of ATSF which is now BNSF and any time I get to shoot one, or some is a cool event! Do they have trains down in Texas? Are they allowed?

Night shots of trains are sometimes cool, always a challenge. Here is Amtrak #11 (the southbound Coast Starlight) at a crew change/fresh air stop in Klamath Falls, Oregon. Thought I'd try the high ISO capabilities of the E-510. The stats are:
ISO 1600
0.4 sec
f/5.6
12 mm
handheld

C&C most wlecome!

I like night shots - or anything with atmosphere, snow, rain, fog darkness - over regular daytime shots. Nice job on that one Bob!

Cool B&Ws too - a little worried about that one between the rails... note to myself - don't try that at home

Thanks, jbear. I'm with you on the 'between the rails' shot. However, it does give one the real low down on railroading.

Yeah, like the Klamath Falls shot. Even with moving around freely, it's kind of nice to step away from the can for a while. The night lighting and curve to the platform adds a lot to this one!.

Trying to think outside the box while killing time - thought i'd try something a little different. 10:10PM, tripod, open shutter, remote flash and a speeding Amtrak... Not quite what I envisioned - but its a start.

We got up to the Tillamook area this past Sunday and as we were going through Garibaldi I glanced to my left and what to my wondering eyes should appear but a shiny F unit, and the trip was paused.

It seems Doyle McCormick's F unit is on "semi-permanent" loan to the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad since the line between Garibaldi and Portland was washed out during the winter. The OCSR will know in September, when all the engineering reports have been filed, whether or not the line will be re-built. Until then 274 is enjoying the coast.

Thanx, jbear! She sure is a beauty, alright. I guess she has a "wheel-slip problem" that the brains at OCSR are trying to skull out. What a treat to see'er!!

Thanx, again!

I've got boxloads of old Lionels. My dad gave me my first one when i was 5 and by Jr High I had at least 10 different sets. Sold them all and bought golf clubs - go figure. Some are now worth a lot... live and learn.
Then over the years, my dad would buy them at garage sales and box them up. One day he gave them all to me about 15-20 years ago. Most all run - but they are in less than pristine condition. As you can imagine, garage sales aren't the place to find a "never been opened" War Bonnet Super Chief!
He did give me a never been opened American Flyer Nickle Plate Special though. DOn't know yet what I'm gonna do with that one. Its old and still in the sealed brown wrapping and I don't want to open it.

I've got a few other keepers though. One day I'll get some out and try to be creative and shoot them with a lensbaby or something.
