Thx Larry,
and BTW I very much like the orange-on-grey tones of the train in your pic. And, it reminded me of a film I just saw on the Berlinale Film Festival, http://www.cinema-scope.com/cs34/int_peranson_benning.html
James Benning is traveling all through the US and sets up his 16mm camera to film trains passing from start to finish in a single frame/setup. It's very relaxing, once you get used to it.

Took this on a trip east for a wedding. Not a lot of time to chase trains so a series here and two of the "train" from the Capitol to the House office building are pretty much the only train shots. Jointed rail and all!
Hey, I'm not a train guy, but I had the chance to visit the Golden Spike site a few weeks back. The trains were in the shop, but I thought you might enjoy a few from there
Number 1 (well, actually it looks like number 60!)

We visited the Golden Spike site on trips a couple of times. The first time was in October and the engines were in the shop for maintenance. The "canned" multimedia presentation was on so we watched that and at the climax, the curtains to the big picture windows sweep open to a vast empty desert. A rather remote spot but a very important event.
That's the spot, right next to the museum. I got lucky, I barely got set up, and didn't have time to check exposure or do tests before I heard the train coming.

Looks like you lucked out. I have always wanted to do some shooting around there at night but am never down town at night when we visit there. Maybe next time I will make more of an effort.
Again, it's been a while since I posted anything. I'm waaaaay to busy. Oh well... Anyway here's one to look at. Shows a westbound CN on the mainline at Matsqui, B.C. I shot this through the belly of a hopper car on empty eastbound CP unit potash train waiting to cross the Fraser River to Mission, B.C. http://lkeithr.zenfolio.com/img/v1/p133348734-4.jpg
Since my dad died a few weeks ago, I've had to come back to Enid, OK about every two weeks to help clean up his property and get it ready for sale. While working in the yard all day, I've noticed the almost constant sound of the trains in the distance. It is inescapable. So last night I finally went over to the switch yard to see what I could see.
The old Santa Fe Blue and yellow was moving cars around on the tracks - pushing and rolling them into place, While the beast with four heads sat waiting to pull out of the yard.
I was glad to get a blue and yellow SF - I was afraid they were all gone. Going back in the daylight to see if I can capture it with a little more light. It was almost totally dark for both shots - in fact the two weren't more than 30 seconds apart. The difference is that the switcher was moving.
