Here's the straight story.
I bought this lens from a FMer 2-3 years ago, for 850$.
I didn't use it much , and when I tried to I found it had problems,
soft focus, oily blades, auto focus was off etc.
So I sent it to Tokina authorized repair center and had all the issues
sorted out for about 150$.
Since then, I have been trying to sell this lens , but whoever looks at the
samples at f/2.8 complains that the images are too soft.
I don't have another 300 f/2.8, to compare the results against, So I can't give you
a comparison, but at f/2.8 they do indeed appear soft to me too.
So I presume this is probably the best the lens can do, or people are expecting
a canon L-series grade lens for a quarter of it's price.
So I am offering it here once more for 900$, Cosmetically the lens is in pretty good shape and comes with a front filter and hood and a strap.
