MMMM, having only had my 30D for a year Im not looking at buying this camera. Sounds great though. There is little I would upgrade for. The one thing I wish the 30D had is a quiet shutter. My husband hates it if he is using the video camera anywhere near me taking photos, the shutter sounds like a machine gun on rapid fire
The 40D has already taken a price dump today! My local store had it listed as $1947 (Au$) yesterday and now its listed at $1790 (Au$) a reduction of $157 (Au$) in a couple of days after its announcement, and the camera hasn't been released yet!

Then try one of these! You won't have any money left for a 40D upgrade after buying one anyway!
"Everyone's hyped about the 40D, but they JUST came out with the 30D for goodness sakes! Why the heck do they need a 40D? What the heck are Canon thinking? Makes absolutely no sense to me, so hopefully someone can shed light on this confusing product announcement..."
Because the 400D was a more compelling camera in many ways, and at a lower price? Because the competition had already come out with cameras offering better features?
I guess the contract detection AF in live view mode is now a no-brainer and should've been included in the 40D and 1D3. It's not like you'll be using live view for its fast AF anyways.

Well you can already order it for £100 or so less than RRP in the UK. And long may it continue.
The RRP is $1999 (Au$) so its now $209 (Au$) less then RRP within less then a week. This is a B&M store too! Online prices are sure to become cheaper over the next couple of weeks.
I reckon when the D300 hits the streets, we will see yet another price drop on the 40D.
I predict the price will drop to around $1550 (Au$) by late November (Just before Christmas) either that, Or Canon will offer a rebate over the holiday period.

They still could add it to the 40d and 1d3 with a firmware update, right?
Tried staying out of this but got sucked in...
How come everyone is bad mouthing the 30D? I upgrade from the 10D to 30D
and am very happy. The 40D has some great feature but I want more lenses instead
of a new body.
If the 30D (20Dn?) was such a rip off, then wasn't the 1DMIIn a Canon rip off too?
Don't tell me it's just the name the marketing people picked that devalues the camera.
For those saying forget the 40D and buy a 5D, remember, the 5D is twice the price of the 40D. That extra money buys a very nice L lens.

Actually they have. The 2003 EOS 10D had PictureBridge compatibility added with a firmware upgrade in the first year.
Canon please if you would like to sweeten the deal with firmware additions - please do it soon - there are more than a few glances being taken at the Nikon competition
Now we know Canon listen to what we want from what they created with 40D - I suppose it takes more than 1 or 2 people to form an audible request........
