i downloaded the file for Mac OS extraction and when i checked the file size, the file size was 10,375,168 bytes. The instructions say to re-download the file if it is a size different then 10,187,916 bytes.
I've tried downloading 4 times now and each time the file size is 10,375,168 bytes. I just wanted to know how to proceed should i update my firmware with this file or not

I had the same thing happen with my iMac download (can't remember if the file size was exactly the same as yours, but definitely bigger than it should have been) so I downloaded onto a PC and got the precise number of bytes for the unzipped file and updated with that with no problems.
Any other Mac owners out there had the same result or can explain the problem?
I upgraded to 1.0.0 yesterday and followed the suggestions and explanations of Palladium for C.Fn settings at: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=336920&page=77 This post, 1154, is on page 77 of the - photography-on-the.net | Canon Digital Photography Forums | The latest report on 1D Mark III AF issues - thread if the link doesn't work.
I am now for the first time encouraged that the 1d3 will live up to the focus performance of my 1D and 1D2.
remember to set back to C.Fn defaults before (or even after) upgrading to 1.0.0. You may be able to set the C.Fn's and improve the focusing without upgrading. I upgraded first.

But the unzipped file on my Mac was larger than the the unzipped file on my PC - don't understand why.

Now i'm confused. My PC file, is showing as being 10,127kb. However, when i use Canon's instructions of checking the file size using the properties-file size, the file is showing as being 10,369,144 bytes, which is larger then the 10,187,916 file size canon states in their instructions.
I find it hard to believe that the file size would be consistent with all of the different drives that are out there, I would think the way the drive is formated would be the big factor on how big the files size is, I work on Mac's and PC's and when transferring files from one to another the files will show a different size, not by much but different.

ordinarilly, i wouldn't even be checking the file size, however, canon has specificaly stated the folloiwng in their instructions: The file for updating the firmware can be downloaded at the bottom of this page.
Select the compressed, self-extracting file appropriate for your OS and double-click to extract.
After completing the download and extraction, confirm that the following files have been generated :
Firmware update file
1D300110.FIR (10,187,916 bytes)
* Windows: Properties size
* Mac OS: Get Info, -> General information Size
If the file size differs from the above, please download the file again from the Web site. Also, firmware updating service is provided free of charge at Canon Service Centers.

I've tried four times now on both my PC and Mac and have not been able to download the file size indicated by Canon....Show more →
below you can see that the "size on disk" will change from one drive to another not the file "size" doing "properties" on the same file located in two different drives.
Look at red arrows for the correct location.
Sorry, all I had was the manual to check this with.

Just a FYI, when checking file size.

The "size" is listed as being 10,369,144
The "size on disk" is listed as being 10,371,072
I did not note the size on disk before, but the "size" of 10,369,144 was the file size on my PC (5 times i've attempted to download and got this same file size). The Mac size was 10,375,168 bytes.
I was checking the: eos1dmk3110.exe file size.
My .FIR file is 9.71 MB (10,187,916 bytes)

Are you checking the file size of the zip file or the file size of 1D300110.FIR The size of the zip will be 9.88 MB (10,369,144 bytes)
The size of the actual file 1D300110.FIR unziped should be 9.71 MB (10,187,916 bytes)

ditto.
i did the upgrade, everything seems to work fine. I did forget to reset my custom functions, which I read on another thread makes a difference, i will go do that now.
If resetting the CF makes a difference, then why didn't Canon reset my settings when I had them install the 1.0.9 update? Kinda doesn't make sense that you'd have to reset the settings... but if it might work, what the heck!
