Seems like a ton of energy focused on 'information' that is a moving target. This make it all look not believable, because one rumor supercedes the previous one, and all are wrong in the end. For those who do know what is coming out (I am not saying that I am one of them) they must be chucking right now.
Because of a disclosure agreement I am now allowed to say where I work but I can say for sure that the 40D will be on shelves for sure on sept 2nd. Believe me or not I was just trying to get the date out there for everyone. We still have no specs on the camera itself just that it will be on sale on the 2nd and there is already a SKU in our system for it.
well, aside from a showcase for how NOT to design a survey, i'm not sure what this is supposed to demonstrate. i already took it a week ago.
if you imply that they need to tally these before coming out with any new models, I think you have to be kidding. you really think 1DsMkIII,5DMkII,40D are all a good year away at this point??
anyway, we'll see what is said (or not) next week. i would be absolutely shocked if at least one new DLSR does not get announced for quick release. i wouldn't be surprised if two were.
as to the specs, who knows, some of the rumours seem fairly reasonable, i have my bets on which ones yes and which ones no, we'll see soon enough, perhaps it will be a huge shock and even the reasonable ones will be off.
I think the Northlight site is credible...as a RUMOR gathering place. Keith pulls in some tips via email, and he references sites and industry publications that I don't read. He doesn't hype anything, to the contrary, he consistently cautions that all must be taken with a grain of salt. I don't care if he gets revenue from Google ads based on site hits - what's that to me? I appreciate the effort he puts into keeping the site updated several times a week.
I don't have any problem with discussions about possible forthcoming equipment. It's all good, and I can move on to the next topic if I'm bored...

When I traded my bits and pieces in yesterday for a 5D (I'm still in shock, it's still sitting in the box o.o) I was chatting away to the guy about the 40D and he whispered "Monday!" No idea if he's reliable, he tried to rip me off, so there ya go.

Boy, you don't read much into a simple post, do you?
I just put it in for amusement. I make no claims to omniscience.
Well, I just ordered mine from Amazon... I got the combo with the 28-135mm (should be 18-55mm... probably typo) for $1,499.99 shipped. I figured I can sell the 28-135mm since I've got some other items that I need to unload on Ebay. Amazon should have the best price since they don't charge tax or shipping.
Estimated delivery is October 1 - October 5th... it seems like if you order just the body the estimated delivery date is sooner... but I'm not sure. I'm very excited
So this is the description from Amazon regarding weather-sealing:
"Recognizing the often rigorous shooting conditions encountered by professional and advanced amateur photographers, Canon design engineers made the EOS 40D SLR's magnesium alloy exterior even more ruggedly dependable than its predecessors with upgraded dust- and weather-resistant construction, particularly around the camera's connection ports, battery compartment, and single-slot compact flash (CF) memory card door."
I guess it's "somewhat' weather-sealed
Although Amazon lists the kit lens as 28-135mm, at the bottom of the description it talks about a new EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 IS Lens... I suppose that should be the correct lens?

I just want to find out if the servo auto focus has improved. ohhhh the wait
Well, if you carefully read the specs at the Amazon page...
Number of AF points: Nine, all cross-type AF points
Center AF point: Unique hybrid cross-type AF point; world's first high-precision AF point with both horizontal and vertical high-precision; additional standard precision, cross-type sensors for lenses from f2.8 to f5.6
AF sensor: Entirely new Canon CMOS AF sensor
AF sensitivity range: EV -0.5 to 18 (at 73 degrees F / 23 degrees C, ISO 100)
It's a bit of a no-brainer that Servo AF will work better as result of these improvements.

Since I'm raining on the parade here, I think that Northlight site is one of the poorest sites on the web. Nothing ever comes from it. It simply recycles rumors found here, DPR, and then it becomes self-referential when people here parrot what was written there. It's baffling that people aren't smarter about that site, but what are you going to do???
Baffling indeed ... always nice to hear from fans :-)
The rumour pages should perhaps have even bigger health warnings on them to not take them too seriously :-) :-)
