You folks ought to just relax. I didn't pay any attention to any new gear in the last year, next thing i knew they released the MKIII and it caught me by surprise
Hopefully the thread gets locks at the end of the day, since the very first original post proved that this shop sales rep was wrong. Sam (op), it's not a personal dig, but its not like people haven't heard it before.
July was simply a guess from your source. Every shop owner I know has been told its coming very soon, but not actual dates or specs. They get some small amount of notice for their ordering.
And you did bring it up below:

Maybe so... (another speculation/rumor thread being all wrong)... However, I think the odds of a "40D is for August" thread being correct, are fairly good.
Tomorrow is the first of August, I'm sure somebody who works the camera counter at Best Buys told somebody that the 40D will be out this month and we'll be sure to hear about it. Like I've said in other posts, just keep guessing long enough and somebody's bound to be right sooner or later.
BTW, what makes anybody think that some flunky from a camera shop or some kid that works at Samys or Circuit City knows anything about anything, especially what a major camera manufacturer has planned and when ?
Actually if you find the person who adds the UPC codes to the database to CC they will know before anybody else does, probably a week before it's released to the general public.

Yes, 2. half of August or 1. halt of September. It's actually almost given.
What's not given is the features.
And until someone knows anything your guess is as good as mine.
But given that booth the 400D and the 1D mk III have 10 megapixels, I don't think 40D will stay at 20D. But obviously that's the part we are least interested in...
(with the possible exception of the 2. print button)
There used to be a web site that actually graphed the price trends for products over time... I haven't seen that feature on any of the price grabbing sites I've been visiting lately... Does anyone know what if any sites might still do that?
There is a site over here in the Netherlands with a comprehensive price watch. It's in Dutch (d'uhh! ), prices are in euros and have tax included. So the height may not really be indicative, but the trend is.
