I guess it depends what D300 specs are going to be, it should be announced shortly as well. And k20d, D90 next year...
No, there is not going to be a D300 announced. There will be a D200s (or possibly D200x, but unlikely) announced within the next couple of months though. If it is indeed an 's' then its a minor upgrade, which will probably be firmware upgradable in the D200. If its an 'x' then it will mean more MP and no-one really wants that.

How do you know that? I've heard so much about D3 coming out in july from Nikon "insiders", but the reallity is different. The fact is, that noone know s*it, those who now won't tell anyway.
I have a question though, what makes it possible for someone to state the "D300 will be announced shortly", but then go on to question someone elses reply.

50 mpix Canon? Another rumor ...
That's likely just some wild and idiotic speculation, based loosely on the Canon research on, and prototype of, a special APS-H size monochromatic (!!!) 50 Mpixel sensor. The sensor is intended for specialist application like security cameras or monitoring equipment.

Especially if the source is some public board like DPR or FM. That PMA-Rumour blog is not very discriminating.
"I've read on Dpreview forums that, september's edition of UK magazine T3 has mention on page 60 of a 50Mp Canon camera coming in 2008 to definitively bury 35mm film."
It doesnt take that much. In fact, when I got the 5D it finally made me forget completely all about 35mm film SLRs. I loved the Nikon FM/FM2s and although not as compact, the 5D is pretty light and compact, has MUCH more low light capability, is obviously full frame and Image quality is great, much cleaner than 35mm film and only a time consuming and expensive drum scan of a perfectly exposed low iso 35mm film might have more resolution but naturally not be as clean.
50mp...not likely in the next 10 years in DSLRs, but probably in 2 years in MFDB, 20+MP 35mm frame DSLR? Yes, probably this year (1Ds mk3), next year at the latest. Nikon is really constrained by the smaller frame so they should top out at 16mp for the next 4 years unless they go full frame.

Easy killer, there is no need to get your panties in a bunch.
Pixel technology is progressing a lot faster than lens technology. With that said, what megapixel countdo will be irrelevant?
Sure right about that, though it has slowed down considerably (which I believe is good). Still you can get 12 megapixels P&S's. That doesn't render my 20D obsolete though
The upgrade, (when it comes on 21st August) will be a modest one. 20D was of only minor interest to 10D owners but was a good upgrade for D30/60 owners. 30D was of little interest to 20D owners but was a good upgrade for 10D owners. The 40D will be of little interest to 30D owners but will tempt many 20D owners. This way Canon keeps clear ground between it and the higher models and maintains a future upgrade trail. Sure some may go to Nikon but look at how many - despite the oh so fantastic 200D Canon killer - have come from Nikon in the last 18 months.
Canon knows the baying crowd amounts to about 20 or 30 of you and won't be paniced into throwing sweets.

No way that Canon will ever fail me! Just wouldn't happen!
I love Canon and will love them more when the fantastic 40D comes out!
Just had a call with my local shop, and they told me that the 40D will be announced in July....
Happy Summer !
Sam
If you are referring to July of 2007, then it should happen tomorrow... I wont be able to sleep tonight, coz of the expected huge feature enhancements from 20D / 30D
