hey Raymond, what is happening to you, there is no dog in the picture ?
BTW excellent picture for ISO2000, it seems that the D80 performs very well...
Guy
Thanks i'm converting a few carlos shots as we speak. so no worries
Today i went to the zoo. It was an overcast day so the light wasn't really helping my sigma 50-500. I've shot this one @ 370mm so i had to bump the iso to get a bit of light on my image (and a faster shutterspeed). so i ended up with iso2000 (hi0.3). it's quite OK. i haven't tried, but i guess this will print fine
lol from last night. Same gear with a D1. No PP on all images, cropping only on the stitched images ~ luckily, no dust either, just cleaned CCD with cotton buds and blower .
Nikkor 300mm f4.5 Ai, ReyGay VR / Pano Head, 13 images stitched with PTgui (changed to ISO400 version )
I dunno why Bjorn Rorslett rated the Nikkor 300mm f4.5 Ai poorly but all I can say that my copy was pretty dang sharp at wide up to f/22 (even sharper with a better dslr), with the exception that the focusing is stiff but this is an advantage , I guess Bjorn rated it poorly due to stiff focusing...
edited: wrong photo placed (1st one), I placed the ISO200 version instead of the ISO800 version
edit: the ISO400 version looked better than the ISO800 version

I don't like you suggesting that online reviews might somehow be arbitrary..............
lol, no one really knows ...anyway, let it be cuz from my observation at Ebay, a lot of people bid for this type lens at higher prices when mint but not as much as the ED version, which suggests that it is a great performer but contrary to the reviews.
I still think it really depends on the sample. Just like Bjorn R. said, the lens does deterioriate as it ages or how much abuse it takes. This is the reason why Nikon introduced ED glass. ED glass doesn't deterioriate as much as regular glass as it ages ~ that's why it is often better to purchase non-ED lenses in mint condition. ED glass is a bit sharper, I have used 3 ED telephoto lenses for years and yes they are awesome but if I compare my 300mm f4.5 non-ED with my 300mm f2.8 ED Ais, there is very small difference in my opinion.
A couple from the this morning on my way home from work.
This is the Bluewater Bridges from Sarnia Ontario to Port Huron
Michigan, the 1000 foot freighter just happened to be passing by
when I was taking the shot so I thought I would try a long exposure.
(Forgot to use long exposure noise reduction )
