At my distance I'll take all I can get, however at this point I had zoomed in to around 80 in order to frame this in about less than zero of a millisecond. I'm learning as I go trust me!
I got a 75-300mm that would help with that.

Yea I checked my EXIF its actually @100mm not 80. My objective was to get them all in and their reactions of course. I'm really new to this whole science or fast moving object and it all!

Man, if my 18-105 was that sharp, I would have kept it!
Then I guess You were really unlucky because according to many reviews and my personal experience this is one of the sharpest lenses You can get for Nikon camera. It literally destroys in terms of sharpness many primes. Mine is sharper than my 50mm f/1.4G and I got a good copy of that fifty. There is actually only one thing I dont like about that lens, its slow AF.

Mine was a dud. Was sent to Nikon 3 times and always came back ok for an hour then would get softer and softer. Sold it back to the shop I got it from.
