Well I received my D3X today and after checking out the condition and cleaning the sensor, I grabbed some shots. After trying out someone's D3X/D800 weeks ago, I'm still very impressed with the colours of the D3X. The D800 is just sharp and detailed but the colours and tone... isn't a D3X. There are no colour or tone adjustments in NX2, just levels esp on the highlights, that's it and these are in Standard colour mode as well. I would expect it to be better if I'd used the recent Micro Nikkor 60mm. Cheers and happy holiday!

A few from yesterday and today. It was soaking wet for several days but that doesn't deter me from bringing my camera everyday. For these images, I gave Phase One Capture 6 a go and after fiddling around with it since it isn't similar to NX2 or Lightroom controls in terms of its interface layout, I'm very impressed with it. So impressed I decided to use it rather than NX2. NX2 tends to be too natural, which is great but I really like the film and icc profiles provided by Phase One. The green tones are very film like, more like Provia tones. The highlights, midtones, and shadows are rendered differently on Phase One and comparing it against NX2 and LR, Phase One is more pleasing - somehow it gives a sense of a "pro" look and it makes my Nikkor lenses render like a Zeiss. Phase One is not for begineers tho but I will be using it more often now even tho it is an XP system hog. One thing I like is the Levels control in Phase One...but it's in the colours and tones, this Phase One is just unique but damn the price. I can't get the colours from NX2 or even worse, LR that I can easily get in Phase One...
Also, I get to try out my mint Nikkor 135mm f/2.8 Ais lens with the latest optical coating and I never knew this lens is sooo sharp when in mint condition. The colours are just phenomenal. A hard to find lens nowadays.
