A few today. No photoshopping, no cropping, just processed in NX2.3.4. Cheers.

"heavily cropped" phrase is starting to show up a lot - it really is an great outcome of the mp race in my opinion. So many shots in the past I might have been pleased with but didn't have enough mm with me or mounted at the time. You don't need to be printing murals to make use of the mp.

Thanks!

For this particular picture I used the term heavily cropped because I cropped it so that the middle third of the frame was used - a bit of cropping form the left and right, but only the middle third or so in the vertical direction of the image was used. it helped the composition by cropping out uninteresting parts of the frame.

Though I admit that 36MP was the last reason I plunked over the $$ for a D800 it does come in handy at times.

Thanks John! I see we both use the 17-35mm and basing your sunset/rise shots and mine, it does seem to have similar colour tones on different bodies. Are you using vivid mode? I am. Always admire your work, cheers.

Rey -

I use standard color, but I shoot NEF exclusively and adjust color to how I remember it if it's needs adjusting.

Thought I'd be getting rid of the 17-35 in favor of a 16-35/4 once I swapped out my D700 for the D800, but the lens has really held up well with careful technique. I had a chance to compare it to a 16-35 last week and the 16-35 is marginally better in some areas and worse in others. I paid $850 for mine a couple of years ago and it has the AFS motor "squeak", but keeps on going. One of these days I'll send it in for a CLA and motor replacement . . . .

Last night the sky was so clean that this was possible with Nikkor 800mm f/5.6 AIS + TC-16A (= 1280mm f/9) wide open:

Moon with a 1280mm f/9 telephoto wide open by labecoaves, on Flickr

D7000 + TC-16A teleconverter + Nikkor 800mm f/5.6 AIS IF-ED + tripod + remote trigger. ISO 250, f/9 (wide open, f/5.6x1.6= f/8.96) at 1/160s.
Even though f/11 or f/16 will deliver slightly better results, this is to show how this lens is good wide open even with a TC.

Very nice as usual Jose. Makes me jealous as living near downtown Seattle rarely is the seeing good enough for such images of the moon. Plus I'm jealous you have a 800/5.6 AIS ED-IF!
