Ryan - you are rockin' that 85G! Great work. I think I may have to pick up the 85G or perhaps the Siggy 85mm - not sure which one as I have heard great things about both.... I do have the Siggy 50mm and love it.

I have to share this info since some of you might benefit form this:

Around the first week of November I decided to clean my D1X CCD filter using a Zeiss lens wipes, it is dangerous but seeing the results coming from my cleaned up lenses, I took the risk. Not expecting anything much other than a clean CCD filter, I went ahead and cleaned it by wrapping the Zeiss wipes on the tip of a cotton bud. Sure it was clean after that but not until I tried to shoot some subjects (the vacuum tubes and flower shots) where I noticed that something was different - it seems as if a veil has been removed . I did more test shots and the clarity of my shots has increased ten folds, figure of speech, there's no way to measure the improvement but midtones are clearer and image rendition is crispier without adding sharpening. Now I don't know what Zeiss has placed onto those wipes but they do more than cleaning . I have also dissasembled the middle lens element of my Nikkor 18-35mm and cleaned using those Zeiss wipes and now it rarely flares and midtones and I repeat, midtones are clearer.

The images below were shot today. All I can say is they look way different from my previous shots using the same lens combo. They clarity is amazing, something I won't expect from a D1X. I haven't even post processed them at all and only used the measured in-camera white balance - no cropping as well. There is definitely a room for post processing on these images but I like them the way they are. All images loaded on NX2 then to PS3. Have fun!

What I love about your work Anton is that you avail yourself of what a lens does best and then find circumstances that allow you to show off that capability. You are as much a bokeh junky as I am so invariably your images, regardless of the lens you use, will isolate a feature and then bathe it in soft out of focus areas. Needless to say, the 24G is a lens capable of rendering subjects in that way about as well as a lens can do. I'm still a HUGE fan of your shots with the 45 PC-E but I happily enjoy these as well. Lovely set my Norwegian friend.

Your words are always so kind, I feel honored that you like my images that much
I'm as you say a bokeh junky, and to test all my lenses extensively wide open to see their performance. I like to use limited dof to single out objects in my images, fast glass and my 45mm pc-e lets me do that pretty well.

Again, thanks for the very kind words.

Anton, your friend in Norway.

Gary - seeing that you've posted in this thread is one way to get me to click immediately (Zach is another). You live in an area with such texture, and I've always thought your colors are so vivid. Then you go and post a black and white! And it rocks!

You've got a great eye - keep taking 'em and posting 'em!

Nice James! I've watched that boat deteriorate from the other side of the river since the mid-70's...

That is a really strong shot - very nice

Ha! I would agree with that. Mind you I saw somebody roasting a whole dog on a spit yesterday on the side of the road. Unfortunately I'm not joking....

Gary - great set! Really like the B/W conversions

James - very nice with the ZF 18. How do you like that lens? One of the few I have wanted to try but never have

Phil - great shot with the 85. I like the color better . Is that the Nikon G? Looks very similar to the alleys here in Savannah

Ryan, I've got a pretty good export sharpening script I cobbled together from the alt thread and I'm not as obsessed as some other people on all things Zeiss but I had the 21, loved it but ultimately sold it as it wasn't wide enough for me. I also needed to have AF for some work things I shoot so I got the 16-35 on the cheap and love it. I got the 18 from Andrew to try on my NEX-5N actually and now will certainly keep it for landscapes. Much cheaper than the 21 and for me there wasn't enough (if any to my eyes) difference between the two at 5.6 where I'll use it mostly.

These are the film version of the same parade, just trying out the 35mm version of the Kodak Ektar 100 film. All images are scanned on my recently cleaned mirror and lens on my Nikon LS40 scanner (yes I have disssambled the scanner, again using the Zeiss wipes to clean the optics and the mirror . I might do a tutorial on this but it will be a long one). Software used is Silverfast Ai 6 using my own custom Kodak Ektar 100 profile - the canned Silverfast Ektar 100 profile is plain cr@p. The verdict on Kodak Ektar 100? It doesn't feel like it's a negative film. I can hardly see the grain, even at 5000px, compared to the finest negative I have used, ala Agfa 50... Ektar 100 so far is the best colour negative out there, assuming that proper scanning, software and profiling is used, it is the best.

The recently cleaned Nikon LS40? Also awesome and I can't believe I have scanned thousands of images on this with all that thick dust piled up on the mirror and the lens . E6 scans at the moment are superb, especially after IT8 profiling.

No photoshopping, no cropping. Have fun and cheers.
