Those are great ReyGay. They look much more natural than the ones using light painting that I've seen before. In fact I would not have guessed. I have never tried it ... how is it done. I'm surprised that 5-10 seconds is anywhere near enough time.

I just used a standard penlight sized flashlight/torch. The reason why I used 5-10 sec exposure is due to the noise that's inherent on the D1 expecially longer than 10 secs . The noise can easily be removed by Lightroom though. And oh, white balance your make camera against the light source.

I made a lot of errors before I got it right and yep, it's like painting! I somehow stroke the flashlight just like you do in a brush and the speed depends on the intensity of the light source and the aperture on the lens. My advise is to play around with these variables i.e. the speed of the brushing stroke and the distance between the subject, there are more variables I guess.

I shot about 100clicks for each subject and the selection process was a pain the @ss .

THe top one is truly worthy of a postcard or a calendar Steen. I love the slightly abstract quality to it and the eye popping colors.

You know what everyone? Would it be impossible to take the various categories, like abstract, landscape, portrait ... and a few others and chose 12 shots from this incredible thread under each category and perhaps have a digital calendar made up. Then if someone here wanted a copy to hang on their wall .... it could get ordered. The money could go to some kind of charity .... or even to Fred as thanks for this site.

It would be for fun ... and to showcase what we all do. Is that a crazy idea? Or something us Nikonians could pull off in a spirit of co-operation?

Or maybe Sticky this thread. "They" can sticky a lousy Canon thread but this thread is not? Now that's crazy.

Thats because with our creativity ... we don't need no stink'n sticky! Talent floats this thread on its own.

kidding aside ... yeah, it would be nice to sticky this one. It is absolutely incredible to see how one small group has such a high level of talent and such diversity in vision.

This is my all time favorite thread.

I have to also say this is a thread that I look forward to reading and rarely have I ever had to search for it past the second page.

i like this one. not because it is unique or spectaculair. But it's nice to see how my D70 hold detail in the blacks and whites of this monkey. I have to admit that i've tweaked this in capture nx, nevertheless nice to see what is possible. I've allways have a hard time shooting this monkeys and keep the details in the blacks and whites. even on an ovrecast day..

Had a friend come over to watch a movie. I snapped a few in the bad light and asked her to pose. I like the way a few turned out ... but these two are my favorite. Any thoughts? (done in terrible light ... almost too dark to focus .... don't you just love digital? )

cool i like the "camera phonin beauty" shot. love the grain in that black and white, it makes it a real photograph, rather than a digital snap shot. i stands out just because of that. i like it the rest is cooltoo ofcourse, but the grainy one is my fav...

i was just browsing my archive last weekend and i noticed this shot taken at a wedding party. i like it, i was experimenting with a long exposure and flash. the camera movement is done on purpose.
